The other day my girlfriend surprised me with a bottle of Amazing Grace perfume by, Philosophy. It's such a clean scent, with a base of blossoms and lasting musk, and the best part? It keeps it scent. Perhaps, she got sick of me trying to sniff her every five minutes, but I believe she just wanted to make me happy because, she's amazing like that. So after spritzing myself up and down, I went and got her my favorite lipstick that she said she likes, because us girly girls have a way of understanding one another.
The bottom of the fragrance bottle has a little quote that reads: Philosophy: in the end it all comes down to one word, grace. Being the dork I am, I look up the definition of grace to see what Webster has to say about it.
I find several meanings: Elegance of form or beauty, goodwill or favor, and probably the most difficult thing to do - forgiveness.
If you look for grace today you will find it. It could be something as small as a stranger holding a door open for you, a neighbor bringing over some fresh cut lilacs from her yard, or making the decision to forgive someone who has hurt you.
I experienced grace first hand this winter when my loved ones were in the hospital. I was having panic attacks due to PTSD. I had a friend bring me groceries right before a snow storm, my sister came up to stay with me to keep me company, I've watched my daughter try to forgive her Dad for the pain he has caused us. I've found beauty and grace in friends who listened, deeply connected with me, and kept me laughing. The endless emails I've received from blog friends and readers, who reached out to provide support after I've shared personal difficulties, is a gift I was most definitely graced with. Did you know I love you guys? Yup, you are the best. Thanks for being you. xoxo
Where have you found grace this year?
