reprieve from the cold in the pages of another place

Good morning, Loves. It has been bone-chilling cold in Boston and temperatures are supposed to dip into the teens this week. I don't know about you, but the biting wind, cold car seats, and chattering teeth have me clamoring to stay indoors, drink tea, soak in a lavender-infused bath, and cozy on up with a good read.

Here is what has been on my bedside table as of late:

Gone Girl, by Gillian Flynn: There is a reason this book has been on the bestsellers list. It is full of twist and turns and will catch you completely off guard. Just when you think you know what's going on - think again.

Girls In White Dresses, by Jennifer Close: This is a comical, light read revolving around a circle of close girlfriends. It had me laughing out loud. It will bring you back to your early adult years and make you remember what it was like trying to navigate the waters between years of college parties to engagements and babies.

Maine by J. Courtney Sullivan: I'm in the process of reading this book, and so far I think it may be my favorite of the three. The story revolves around three generations of the Kellehers, a huge Irish family, who spend their summers in Maine. Theirs is a story filled with sibling rivalry, alcohol, catholic guilt, and ultimately the ties that bind them together.

Speaking of books....Did you enter my book giveaway?  You can enter here to win a copy of Paris: An Inspiring Tour of the City's Creative Heart, by Janelle McCulloch. It's packed with gorgeous photography and reveals hidden gems in each arrondissement of Paris.

What is on your bedside table? Have you read any of these? What is your opinion on them?

  4. Good mornin' darlin'!

WOOO talk about cold...well first of all, I have been having "junior" hot flashes lately! I am now entering into the full-blown menopause zone and I experience little moments of OVER HEATING! But last night while watching a movie, I was so cold that I could not put enough covers on. We had -10 yesterday in the day and today it will be the same. Luckily when I go back to work on Wed., it will "warm up" to about 20. HALLELUJAH, a heat wave.

I am reading a lot of MARY OLIVER poetry. I am sucker for poetry and I am in terrestrial heaven....and with a good mug of Vanilla Almond tea by my little hearth! LOVE! Anita

  13. Gorgeous post, Debby! I just yesterday cleaned out an entire bookshelf worth of books. Of course I still have a ton left but it felt good to donate the ones I was holding onto to others. These days I have a bunch of design books on my nightstand. I'm obsessed :)

    Happy Monday! xoxo

  14. Thanks for the book recommendations! I'll have to pick those up. I love to read and try to do some each evening before bed. We've had unusually cold temps for CA. I've been bundled up in sweaters, boots and scarves. Enjoy your day Debby! Stay warm!

  15. Deb, I'm going to order all 3 of these on my Kindle, the only way I read a novel any longer. But, I's still addicted to tabletop books, with beautiful photos, they are a part of the accessories in my home. Cannot live without books & music. I would love to win your giveaway. I don't usually enter giveaways, but this one is so wonderful, and it's from YOU !!

  19. I think I'm the only person left in the blogosphere who hasn't read Gone Girl!
Right now I'm doing something I never normally do... I'm reading three books at once. Moveable Feast, Wolf Hall, and I'm re-reading Outlander because my husband is reading it and I feel like turning our normal Friday night cocktail hour into a mini-book club :)

  20. Debby,
Our west coast weather must have moved your way. We're now bathed in warmer temps and sunshine, I'll hope it greets you soon.
I just received a book called, "Life would be perfect if I lived in that House" by Meghan Daum. It promises to be funny.
    Enjoy your week.
