do our dream betray us?

Last night I got sucked into a SATC marathon. I was watching the episode where Carrie moves to Paris and realizes her dream was not all it was cracked up to be. There she stood, in the most beautiful city in the world, on a pay phone confessing to Miranda how lost and alone she felt. The language was not the only thing that felt foreign to her. In fact, her entire life at that moment, felt; her relationship, the fact that she was no longer a columnist, the streets she did not know how to navigate, the cafes that were void of her girlfriends. Miranda's response? "Come home. You sound miserable."

The bottom line is sometimes even our best dreams are not always what they are cracked up to be. They disappoint, or we find we are not as happy as expected. Have you ever had an experience where you found out your dream was really not for you?

  6. I think our dreams always betray us slightly, life is a lot tougher that what we think, but of course that doesn't mean we have to stop dreaming and having high hopes!

  7. Good morning my dear!

First of all, that first photo took me back because I have never seen it before and I just came up from my basement workshop where I have my drawing table. I JUST FINISHED a drawing with a little girl in a black and pink outfit!!!!!

Yes, my expectations have often been deflated. When I went to Paris however, it was extremely helpful knowing the language....I could easily navigate my way around not only the city, but THE PEOPLE as well...one must go into their dreams EQUIPPED. I love this quote I saw on Pinterest:

FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS BUT TAKE YOUR BRAIN WITH YOU.

I have entered into my dream of going to Paris with a loaded artillary of language knowledge. HOWEVER, my current dream to be self-employed is another story! I have to gather up as much courage and skill to make this some-time "nightmare" a dream come true.

I wish you a FANTASTIC DAY MY DEAR! Anita

  9. I have always been a big dreamer, and so far I like to think that I have made a lot of mine come true. I still have more dreams, and am constantly updating them and working towards making them happen. Pleased to say that no dream that has come true so far has disappointed, but if it ever does, I will happily walk away and put it down to experience. Better to venture in to dreams, rather than die wondering?! I haven't seen this episode of SITC but shall seek it out......

  10. Like some the others above it was what I thought my dream job would be like and once I got it I couldn't wait to get out of it. Sometimes life and dreams shouldn't be mixed...lol.

    Enjoy your day Debby!

  11. I have had disappointments, but I have learned to just roll with it....When life throws you a curve ball you just have to get out of the way....and roll with it!

  12. That top photo is the cutest thing I have seen in along time!! I got sucked into the same marathon!! The thing is that Carrie realized this man only cared about himself and NOT about her...but Paris wasn't a total bust...because after she realized he was not for her, she was open to the love of her life, Mr. Big. We have to be quick to see the lessons learned within the dissapointments. THEN, we can go forward with joy and no regrets.

  13. HI DEBBY! Thank you so much for coming by! Those motion photos are GIFS....you can make them with Photoshop (which I have, but do ya think I can even figure it out?) SO...I go online to MAKE A GIF. You use "frames" to insert and voilà; you have a moving pic! You see a bunch of GIFS on tumblr, which I am now addicted to, as you can see I used some of your pics!!!!!!! I did link to ya!

    Thanks for your compliments! Anita

  14. This is so true, I think, and the older I get, the more I believe it. It's so easy to create these perfect fantasies in our heads, but when you think about it, reality can never really be perfect.

  15. I find, like with most things, when I can only see it one way, I get disappointed. But when I'm open to all the possibilities, my dreams end up being even bigger than I originally planned. :)

  16. Oh yes....think at one point we have all been there. I think the "be careful what you wish for" adage is so relevant.
But we learn to cope, to manage and compromise and that sometimes we are happier with the less than perfect situations and in the end, those than idea circumstances often work out for us and definitely make us stronger.
On a side note..that first picture is soo cute!!

  18. Yep! ..been there.. I think dreaming is good but we also have to factor in realistic expectations. Sometimes we set the bar so high it's hard to meet our standard. I think we can learn from our mishaps and perhaps even be happy with living a partial dream. We can't always get what we want.. but we CAN get what we need, right?

  19. It happens all the time. The key is to believe that what we have here today is a component of our dream. And be happy with what we have.

  20. Debby,
That is so true!!! I am working hard right now and not looking around for what I don't have but appreciating everything that I do!
I think sometime we dream away our days....instead of living the day we're given to the fullest.

This beautiful post will remind me to do just that!!
    xoxo Elizabeth

  21. Well I can certainly attest to that! Now that I've been living as an expat for 6 years, believe me, moving to a foreign country isn't the most dreamy, glamourous, or easy thing to do. First Ireland, now Dubai, fitting in can be very hard, lonely, frustrating. But don't complain to anyone back home! They all think you are living a dream life and don't want to hear one complaint! And they resent you for living this so-called glamourous life! That's probably the hardest thing of all - not being able to open up to family and friends. It may be an adventure initially but I dream for the day that we can return home. Thank goodness for other expats so we can share our feelings honestly. xo
