confession: i've become "that girl"

Confession: I've become "that girl." The one who runs to the market in her pajamas. She is the girl I've mocked, the one I swore I'd never become. My daughter needed something for school last night and I had just slipped into pj's after a relaxing soak in the tub. I thought about throwing on jeans for a second, but then decided I was too comfy, and really who was I going to see running into the market? So there I was, decked out in sweats and Sperrys, hair up in a clip, tendrils still damp from the bath.  This cold weather just makes me want to soak, lather, sleep, and stay in lounge clothes 24/7, (or at least when I can get away with it).

A little aromatherapy always seems to help me relax, unwind, and feel pampered. Scents are my go-to drug to for a mind altering effect. A whiff of coconut can brighten even the coldest winter day, or lavender puts me instantly at ease.  This Jo Malone scent is on my favorite list at the moment. It's considered spicy, but is not too heavy, and the Vanilla gives it a warm romantic smell.

This little candle from, Kringle Candle Company, is probably the best smelling candle I have ever laid my hands on. It scents my entire downstairs and turns it into a chocolate factory. Everyone who walks through my door asks what smells so delicious. Think fresh baked brownies. Yum.

My daughter and I have been spraying our pillows nightly with this pillow mist from The Body Shop. I like to call it tranquility in a bottle. Apparently, the mutt likes it too, because when I mist my linens each night he goes nuts - he starts rolling around like crazy, trying to scent his fur. Never a dull moment over here.

If your like me, then you find it tough to get out of bed in the morning while it's still dark outside and the house is cold. A hot scented shower works almost as good as caffeine to help me start the day. I'm alternating between Coconut Shower Cream and another inexpensive fave, Trader Joe's, Refresh.

Dior BB Cream isn't exactly aromatherapy, but you HAVE to try it! It's a fix-all for dull winter skin. I was given a free sample at Sephora and instantly fell in love. I gave my sample to my Mom and she fell in love too. It primes, protects, smooths and camouflages. Totally worth the price point. I put a thin layer of my Bare Minerals foundation over it for extra coverage.

This is another little gem. Have you tried it? The Garnier Skin Renew Anti-Dark-Circle Roller gives a cooling effect when applied and simply needs to be blended with your finger. I find that it stays put and is a light enough consistency that it does not settle into fine lines.

What are your favorite products or scents to chase away the winter blues?

  1. IT'S THAT GIRL!!! Don't worry dear one, I HAVE DONE THE SAME...but only in the winter when I can wear my parka over my pjs!!!!!!!!

Ahhh....you speak sweet scents of wisdom here because there is nothing like unwinding with some kind of aroma that is soothing. My favorite is lavender. A spritz of lavender on the pillow is sure to make me make zzzzzzzzzzzz in seconds flat. Chocolate....hmmmm! I MUST TRY THAT! Last night however, I had the best chocolate strawberry tea, EVAH!!!!!!!

Oh drats, I have to go to teach this morning! I feel like just staying home to spruce up my laundry with lavender then taking a nap!

Have a relaxing day my dear, Anita

  2. You are so my kind of girl..I am a bit of a product junkie. A spray for the pillow to sleep better? I am so getting that! And a brownie smelling candle....sold! I love my gardenia candle and my Viennese blooms from Seda France, burn them all the time and the smell permeates through the entire house. I am a big bath person especially during the "cocoon season" aka winter. Love Jo Malone..wear roses. Reminds me of my great grandmother (in the best way possible)! For my dry skin I swear by the Jurlique day moisturizing cream, super rich and smells so good, its a great way to combat the dry cold winter air. And I have these bath salts from Shelly Kyle and they smell heavenly.....can never get enough of great products. I should be a product tester! See you get me started and I cannot stop. OK saying bye....for now:)

  3. It's funny, I'm at the stage where I too swear I'll never become that girl...but who knows! My favourite winter scent is definitely coconut. And I usually have a cup of chai latte in my hands :) They smell great too. This past winter I remember burning a lot of pomegranate scented candles and they were lovely! Stay warm xoxox

  4. Sweats are fine, as long as your not running out in your nightie!
I think I've sorted out my blog header for the moment, but a change is beckoning.

  5. All of these sound wonderful...this was a difficult post to read at my work desk...made me want to run home and relax. By the way, every time I run to the store looking "relaxed" and I think I will not run into anyone....I HAVE ALways RUN INTO SOMEONE I KNOW! I try not to do it now, because for me it is an instant backfire!

  8. That is funny. I have gotten much more casual through the years and often live in my yoga clothes. I am really loyal to my products and dont' change very often. I buy a lot of all natural products from our local health food store that are really excellent, as long as they keep working I keep buying them.

  11. I certainly couldn't manage winter without the cosy glow of gorgeous scntede candles and my current favourites are from Neom and The White Company. The BB cream from Dior and the spritz for the pillow are two here that I would love to try.

  14. Debby,
I don't consider sweats PJs but I guess they seem the same, I probably wouldn't go out in them for the one reason that when I look my worst I ALWAYS run into someone I know! LOL. I love beauty posts since I'm rarely loyal for years on end to any one product. I do love MAC BB cream. It's a favorite, nice to know there's a recommended alternative with Dior. I will be headed to the Body Shoppe, I haven't been in there in a while and I love the idea of getting some spray that will help with relaxation when your head hits the pillow.

  16. Haha don't worry, Debby. I doubt anyone noticed. I would be tempted to keep my pjs on too. Who wants to be uncomfortable? Especially this time of year :)

And love hearing all of your product picks! Love the Jo Malone Vanilla & Anise. It's amazing. And the Garnier Eye Roller. Oh and Dior's BB cream too! Love! I'm gonna have to get my hands on that candle. Sounds heavenly.

    xoxo
