THE MAGIC LASTS A LIFETIME

Good morning, Loves. Did you have a good weekend? The majority of mine was spent working. Let's just say I'm already behind in my Christmas shopping. How is yours coming along?

My son took the train home from college to surprise me. It just feels more like the holidays when he's home. I'm slowly working on putting out my Christmas décor when I can steal an hour here or there. I did manage to to display some greenery in the foyer, (photo below). It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

How are your holiday preparations coming along so far? Have you attended any holiday parties yet? I'd love to know what your most cherished Christmas memory is? I remember when I was a kid I had asked for tape recorder for Christmas, I must have been in middle school. I held the microphone up to my Dad's mouth and said, "say something." He started singing, "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas," and as if on cue, big fluffy flakes started floating down from the sky. In that moment, my eleven-year- old-self, had the clarity to realize that I would never outgrow the magic of Christmas.

  4. I love the wood floors in your kitchen! Beautiful. All of my children will be home in a couple of weeks...first I have to go watch my son graduate from college this weekend. The majority of my Christmas shopping is done...but I always get tempted by sale prices to buy a few more! Our house is still chaos, but the end is in sight. Have a great week!!

  5. Hi Debby, could you tell me what you used to hang the garland over the entrance to your kitchen? The first thing you see when you enter our home is the arch over our great room-the perfect place for an evergreen garlard. I just never knew how to hang it without damaging the walls. I didn't have much luck witht the 3M hooks.

  10. Wow, I love your decorations so far! I've started decorating a little bit but unfortunately we can't put up a tree because my cat will actually jump into it and rest on the branches : (. And then we find all the ornaments in our basement!

  16. Your garland is perfect Debby! Such a fun post.. the holidays are so magical. The preparation and the time spent with family (making memories) is the best part. We all have a child within.. and we need to find it, and bring it out to play every now and then. Christmas is the perfect time. The Polar Express.. do you still hear the bell?

  20. I am so glad that your son came home to surprise you! What a lovely early Christmas treat. I think it's a shame that some people feel the need to outgrow Christmas, but there is a magic in this season and if you surrender yourself to the wonder, of family, friends, cookies, and festivity, then you give yourself the gift of a time of eternal childhood and innocence, and that's something we can all use a little more of.
