I saw some adorable fake-peppermint candy topiaries in a shop recently, and thought, "I could totally make those." I set off to the craft store, with visions of peppermints dancing in my head.
Supplies Needed:
white styrofoam cone
hot glue gun
peppermint candies, unwrapped
This is as easy as it looks and it comes with fresh breath guaranteed. I used 3 large bags of Peppermint Candies for two cones. I was three quarters of the way finished with my second topiary, and realized I was running out of candies fast, so I grabbed a knife and thought, "Off with your head! I didn't stand here gluing away and burning my fingers for nothing." Voila, my tree got instantly shorter and there were enough candies to finish my project. Klutzy girls like me should never be allowed near a glue gun...just sayin'. I had burning hot peppermints, sticking to my fingers, while four letter words, that would make my mother cringe, spilled from my mouth. Apparently, my language was as fresh as my peppermint breath.
Have you ever made a topiary? What kind did you make?

so so cute Debby! and looks great in your home!
ReplyDeleteLove it and love your little vignette...so festive and pretty! You had me laughing about the scene with the hot peppermints sticking to your fingers.....I had a similar scenario.. with hot pinecones. It is funny now, not so funny then... I get great satisfaction out of doing something myself but it does take patience and TIME, something that these days is a total luxury!! Enjoy these last few days before Christmas!
ReplyDeleteSo,so CUTE! I love them sitting my the red latern. These are the kinds of projects my daughter loves so I will make sure to show her your post!! Have a wonderful day, Debby....
ReplyDeleteOooh Debby I love them! You're soooo creative. I do have a couple of topiary balls & a small topiary hedge in my garden which I have to maintain the shape of, but that's about it for me!!
ReplyDeleteHave a fab Thursday Hun xoxo

ReplyDeleteThey are absolutely stunning, you have a great knack for arranging little groups together. Yes if I could find a cone, I would copy you right now.
ReplyDeleteI really love them at different heights! What an easy, festive idea!
ReplyDeleteCute idea! Have you thought about doing a clear acrylic lacquer to preserve them for next year?
ReplyDeleteHa! Well, even though it was a tough road, the results are fabulous! Love them!
ReplyDeleteThere's so much you can do with hot glue! Great idea Debby:)
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so festive!
I think the grouping looks right that they are different sizes. So the running short on mints produced the perfect outcome! Looks great, especially with the red baubles and lantern! You are very industrious! Merry Christmas wishes to you Debby! from Deborah in Melbourne.
ReplyDeleteDebby,
ReplyDeleteVery cute. A friend and I made faux topiary once year with fake cranberries...same thing, hot glue all over the place and a few minor burns just to mark the project. :-)
I like the looks of these with your red tea tin and such.

Fun and festive Debby! I recently made a yarn tree out of one of those cones. I will have to try the peppermint candy one, too. Your house looks beautifully decorated.
ReplyDeleteIf I could find peppermints like that in France, I would totally make one of those.
ReplyDeleteI'm pinning it anyway :) x
