Wanderlust Explored: The Nantucket Hotel

Good morning, Loves. Did you have a good weekend? I'm so excited to be debuting my new travel series with you all today! Grab another cup of coffee and let's take a little trip to Nantucket so we can kick this week off right. If you have been reading Inspired for any length of time, then you surely are aware of my undying love affair with the idyllic island of Nantucket. The Nantucket Hotel  is a grand hotel that was originally built in the late 1800's during the height of Nantucket's whaling industry. Early advertisements boasted of gaslights, billiard halls, croquet lawns, sea views, and orchestra.

This past summer The Nantucket Hotel re-opened it's doors after the most extensive refurbishment in it's history. The hotel has been brilliantly designed by Carriage House Creative. It features modern amenities but still embodies the spirit from the age of elegance.

I was jumping at the bit to check out the grand dame for myself, and I have to say the hotel far exceeded any expectations I had. Upon our arrival, Logan and I were picked up at the ferry by the hotel's complimentary shuttle, which is an utterly charming 1934 Ford Bus, which incidentally was used in a movie set. The shuttle also brings guests to and from the beach during the summer months.

I have had the privilege of staying at some of the finest resorts out there, but I can honestly say, the staff at The Nantucket Hotel was by far the best. They made us feel like family and were beyond gracious. You will not encounter any pretentiousness here - the last thing you want when traveling, in my opinion. The hotel is romantic enough for a couple's getaway and at the same time, welcoming enough for a family visit.

Our suite was spacious, comfortable and well appointed. The living room area had a large screen television, bookcases full of books, a pull out bed,  fridge, microwave, plates and mugs, and plenty of seating. Our bedroom also had a wide screen television, luxury linens, and big fluffy pillows, (the kind that  make you want to refuse to get out of bed). The bath was well lit, had a large walk in shower and a separate tub and was stocked with luxurious toiletries.  The suite would comfortably accommodate a family of five.

Our floor had a business area, (see below photos), equipped with computers for guest's convenience. Each area of the hotel was well thought out, and had both whimsical elements as well as historical elements throughout the decor. Yes, that is me pretending to blog, but as you will probably guess my laptop goes everywhere with me!

How fun are these pillows? Perfect for a summer home on the island of Nantucket - Wouldn't  you agree?

The photo below is of yet another sitting area off of the lobby by the hotel concierge. The concierge is more than happy to help guests arrange dinner reservations, rent bikes from Young's Bicycle Shop, schedule walking tours, and help you make the most of your visit.

The hotel's bar and cafe, Breeze, offers coastal cuisine by the talented Chad Hudson. I strongly recommend ordering the lobster roll if you go for lunch. Be prepared, it's huge. Another favorite at the hotel is the Fireside S'mores. There is a beautiful deck off of the Cafe with two firepits, couches and even a hanging swing. Couples stroll freely outdoors, with drinks in hand, to warm themselves and take in the stars. Heaven.

The summer months offer al fresco dining poolside. I can almost taste the iced tea and hear the buzz of summertime guests frolicking in the summer afternoon sun.

The masterpiece of the hotel is the Grand Ballroom, (excuse my poor iphone quality - I wanted to catch the morning light but with only 1 cup of coffee under my belt, I forgot my camera). Guests can ring in the New Year at this year's upcoming Great Gatsby themed New Year's Eve Ball. Guests are welcome to dress in vintage attire and relive the roaring 20's while enjoying live music from the Perry Rossi Orchestra. I think we should make it a requirement for all Bloggers to attend. Wouldn't that be fun?

We had beautiful unseasonably warm weather. The island was perfectly quiet this time of year. Autumn is a beautiful time for a romantic couple's weekend or girl's getaway. Summer is the best time for families because you have some of the most beautiful beaches just a stone's throw away.

I also want to mention that the hotel is a quick two minute walk to town. Logan and I strolled out for a late night walk, and we had the gorgeous uninhabited town all to ourselves. The cobblestone streets and historic mansions were illuminated under the street lights. It was simply breathtaking. The only thing missing was my son, who sadly, is away at college. He would have loved it.

Upcoming events at The Nantucket Hotel:

Thanksgiving Dinner, Thursday, November 22cnd, 4-8 PM

Theme Night Dinners Every Wed. night through December 26th. Taste the flavors from Mexico, Germany, Ireland and Italy.

Football in the Grand Ballroom every Saturday, Sunday + Thursday. College + NFL games. Special game day menu provided.

Room reservations are now being taken for Thanksgiving, Christmas Stroll, Post Stroll, Christmas and New Year's Eve! (508) 310-1734 or (866) 807-6011 or you can email the hotel directly.

I would like to thank the Owner: Mark Snider, General Manager: Jamie Holmes, and the very helpful and accommodating, Front Office Manager: Carlos Castrello for making this review possible and for generously providing me with accommodation. I will be back!

  21. I'm hoping next summer we finally get to visit Nantucket. Thanks to your fab review I have another place to consider. Since we've never been, I don't really want to take the risk of renting a house. I'd like to be close to town in a hotel that I can truly relax in. I'll definitely check them out!!

    xoxo Elizabeth

  23. Oh Debby, I am a little (okay, a lot) jealous of your gorgeous weekend! I am glad that you and Logan had a wonderful time away together. I have never been to Nantucket, but after these lovely photos and your recommendation, I will have to add it to my list. The New Year's Great Gatsby party sounds like so much fun! I had a roaring 20s party for my birthday this year and it was wonderful...maybe next time :) I can't wait for your next travel post!
