THE BEST THINGS ARE UNEXPECTED

The best things in life are the unexpected. Think about it. How about an unplanned pregnancy in a family? After the initial shock wears off, a buzz of excitement follows. Once the baby arrives there isn't a relative around that isn't completely smitten. What about the stray cat that you fed once or twice, only to have him make his way into your home and your heart? There's the unexpected delivery of flowers to your front door that takes you by complete surprise, or the falling of big, white, fluffy snowflakes, as if on cue, as you pick out your Christmas tree at the lot.

I think the element of the unexpected is so much fun when it comes to decor. Whether it be a hidden dining room that overlooks a meadow of roaming horses, or a silly cat who naps amongst books.

Did something unexpected happen to you that turned out to be one of the best things in your life?

  2. All of the above have happened, skiing down the newly opened bowls in Vail, i could not understand why my ski suit was so tight ...to find out I was 3 months pregnant. That was not in the plan as i accepted a brand new job as merchandiser in new york...and of course, once i heard the news, i immediately fell in love with this child who is the center of my life. on thanksgiving, this skinny, wet , nasty creature was scratching at our kitchen door. i opened the door and for the past 10 years he is most certainly the ruler of the house and its occupants including our 2 rescue pit bulls. The same goes with design. i curate my showroom with eclectic found objects and furnishings.I love and pinned the study you show as it epitomizes the modernity of eclectic style.

  7. I've had a unexpected moment lately that I really enjoyed and it still brings a smile to my face. I also actually found a stray cat in our backyard this morning. I've seen it before - thinking of feeding it despite my husband who will be so-ooo mad. I'm an animal helper - what can I say - I've rescued lots of stray dogs - they are just innocent - right!

  13. Debby,
You are so right...expect nothing, be surprised when good things come your way. I love the surprise of the unexpected. One of the most memorable things in my life, which may sound trite, was a surprise birthday party given by friends, when I was only 17 years old...it was so totally unexpected. I'm certain there were a few other surprises along the way but it was so fun when I was young.
