Sometimes we just need a little indulgence. While away for my travel series, one of the resorts we stayed at, that I will feature next week, surprised me with a bottle of Heidsieck and Co. Monopole Blue Top Champagne. It arrived on a silver tray with lusciously ripe strawberries, rich whipped cream and a beautiful handwritten note. Before I could even finish reading the note, Logan had done a fair amount of damage with the strawberries. There's no question she's my daughter.
Funny thing is, I don't drink. Between my migraines, blood thinners, and negative experiences with other's addictions I've opted for a dry life. I'm the type of girl who knows how to have a good time regardless. I wasn't about to the let the occasion or gesture go unmarked though.
Me: "One of us is too old to drink and one of us is too young."
Logan: "We should open it though. I want to see the top pop."
Me: "We could have a toast and a sip. We should do something fun like make a video to remember."
Logan: "That would be fun."
I go to set camera on fireplace mantel and decide we need background music. Logan agrees and scrolls through her phone.
Logan: "I have Champagne Supernova."
Me: "Perfect." I have no idea what the lyrics mean, but it has Champagne in it, so I'm down with that.
We make a cheesy, poor quality video. It's like a bad joke: How many "Steele" Magnolia's does it take to open a champagne bottle? Regardless, I am happy I have marked the memory. I can look back when I'm old and say: "Yes, that was a good moment."
We have a sip. My sip turns into a glass, and for the girl who doesn't drink, it goes right to my head.
Logan: "I'm so glad you don't drink. You're annoying as heck."
I agree.
I decide to call my Mom who is watching my four-legged baby.
Mom: "Hello?" Mom is distracted because her four-legged-grandson has come looking for her, wondering why she has left the chair that they were so comfortably cuddling in together.
Me: "Oh, we are having the best time. The resort surprised us with Champagne and strawberries."
Mom: "Oh, now I'm jealous. I should be there."
Logan yells in the background: "Mom's buzzed."
Mom: "Be careful you'll get a migraine."
Me: "I feel all warm inside."
Mom: "Why do you think I drink wine?" Polish mother is always the comedian.
We watch the video and giggle because it's just kinda dumb.
Me: "Are you blowing into the bottle at the end?"
Logan: "I was blowing the steam off."
Lightbulb goes off. Yes, we should blow off steam. Our Spa Vouchers are staring back at me. We have been wanting to get into those big fluffy hotel robes since we laid eyes on them!
Life can be difficult and we all face challenges, but the challenges make our champagne moments that much sweeter. Wishing you all many champagne moments.
