Hello September

There is a slight nip in the air first thing in the morning signaling that autumn is soon to make a beautiful appearance. My local coffee shop added my favorite Pumpkin Spiced Lattes to their selection. Tweed skirts are hanging on the racks just waiting to be paired with opaque tights and riding boots. Ah, gotta love this time of the year!

Remember I said I was going to take a photo a day for the month of September? Well, as luck would have it, my camera broke. I thought - No worries, I'll just borrow my daughter's camera. Not even 10 minutes later, she came downstairs to say her camera broke too. Seriously? Such is life. I am not made to have expensive cameras, diamond earrings or pricey sunglasses, as they are sure to get broken or lost the minute they belong to me. I'm still going take photos during September, but they might be pretty lame iPhone quality.

I need your help. When I was eighteen and a hairstylist I worked twelve hour shifts in heels. My days of suffering in the name of fashion are so over. I'm on my feet a lot for work and even ballet flats begin to hurt. What is the most comfy, but stylish pair of shoes that you own? Can you help the girl with sore toosties?

  1. I wrote about Autumn today too! I love your pictures...I want to sit in the one on top with the coffee on the bottom!! I love all the cute flats out today and I have many of them...I put Dr. Scholls insoles in them all...I am a little flat footed, so I use the ones with arch support. They work great and I wear my flats with comfort all day long!! After bunion surgery, that is what I have to do! Have a great week...sadly, I am off to a funeral later in the day. I will be back on the blogs in a couple of days.

  2. Clarks and Aerosoles! I also add the gel inserts too occassionally. I am on my feet for well over 8 hours a day and love my Clarks brands the most, though they aren't always the cutest. I save the cute shoes for days when I'm not working.

  4. Great images! Tweed skirts and opaque tights are one of the best things about autumn and the gorgeous rich colours of course. Can't help with the shoe issue i'm afraid. I love heels at night and ballet flats during the day but sometimes I think they are just too flat and not as comfy as I expect them to be!!

  5. If you really want to know, my Uggs slip on moccains slippers...lol. You asked! I am like you, I used to wear heels, tall wedges, you name it, nothing was off limits. Now, I complain that my feet hurt no matter what I wear!!! I hate it and despite it still wear Jack Rogers all summer long, they are fairly comfortable but I cannot wait to switch into my slippers once I get home and often am tempted as others have done to wear them out but I just can't. Ahhhh, lets invent something to cure the chronic sore feet and you know we will make a lot of feet happy:)

LOVE those images, you really hit it on the head with fall being in the air...so pretty.

  6. DARLIN" DEBBY! Oh I am loving this time of year. I so embrace the cool breezes.

OK, I worked long shifts as a pie maker while I was earning my French degree at the university. I first of all went to a foot doctor. He scolded me. He reminded me that taking care of your feet is like brushing your teeth daily. OK......so I started giving my feet LAVENDER SALT BATHES.....then, I looked into stylish shoes that have some comfort built into them for 40+ gals like me at the time. Now I am 50+ and still want to be elevated in heels! But the brand name escapes me, but there are many brands of COMFORT/AIR sole styles of shoes that are GORGEOUS and stylish. GO SHOPPING AND LOOK. I swear by them because I was wearing them daily in the classroom where I was also on my feet a lot, whether I was kicking a football with the guys or running after a kid down the hall!!!!!!!!!

    Much love, Anita

  7. I love pumpkin lattes too Anything pumpkin really is so darn good My best shoes lately have been Toms and they make them with glitter which are adorable and fashionable but comfy. I walk all around NYC with them and they seem to be good for me. I know it stinks when you cannot be comfortable in shoes and it is hard to find a good pair. Good Luck!!

  8. black French Sole (the India model and strangely only black)
and for comfy Toms, not super stylish but for summer they are the best (after Havaianas!!)

  9. I'm on my feet all day too! When I'm highly visible, I wear my dr scholls ballet flats- they are usually at dsw for about $30 a pair- and much cuter than I'd usually give that brand credit for! I also have a pair of cole haan air talia wedges that I love but I try to wear only for dressier days since I can't afford to replace them quite so often. And when I'm just standing behind the counter at work- I wear Birkenstock clogs or dansko clogs. Yes, they're ugly- but the danskos especially come in cute patterns- and the arch support (which you won't find in any ballet flats, ever) is a lifesaver. My sister is a nurse and swears by these- and I think your customers will recognize that you're putting yourself first by wearing them- everyone knows that working retail can be miserable. Good luck!!

  12. I share your pain Debby as I suffer with bunions, so most shoes are uncomfortable on me whether they be flats or heels! Can't be much help to you there I'm afraid!
Would love you to check out my new look blog :)
    Happy Monday Hun xoxo

  13. Debby-
The latte looks amazing. I hope to learn your camera died. I use my camera on my iPhone. SO convenient.
As for the shoes, I will be reading. I haven't found a comfortable pair of shoes. I'm with Tina on the Uggs.
    Happy Monday.

  14. Hi Debby, I know what you mean when it comes to shoes cute does not = comfy, but I will say Cole Haan are cute and comfy, Taryn Rose shoes are beyond comfy, Sam Edelman has some cushion in the flats I own. For a heel gal probably Cole Haan engineered with Nike Air, I think that might be what Anita was talking about. I have been on the comfy-cute shoe hunt for months. I have a hard foot to fit so fit and comfort are always a huge issue for me. Bloch ballerina flats have turned out to be comfy, but I don't think I would use them a as a supportive shoe. Oh, for casual preppy, Sperry Angels are comfy too. Good luck keep us posted I know woman are always looking for cute-comfy shoes. Take a look at my Fall wardrobe post and you will see 4 pairs of shoes that I am wearing! xo Kathysue

  15. I knew when I saw your post title I'd be in for some pretty fall photography! Sorry, can't help with the shoes, I know I'll pay someday, but I still love wearing my heels and wedges! Good luck!

  16. Those images are my loves, too; especially the outfit and the latte! I wear BOC flats that have an arch in them, and they have helped to heal my sore feet! Also, try Yoga toes, they will help to correct structural problems if you wear them starting out with short times, then working up to hours.
    Here 's a link to them: http://www.gaiam.com/product/yoga+toes.do
They really do work! good luck.

  17. I too am seeking a great looking shoe to substitute for the heels I so love and miss... I have found that a good wedge stills offers height and is more comfy than heels ... Cole Hann makes amazing walking shoes and I've recently tried Tory Burch driving shoes and so far so good.. Good luck and do share what you find! Hugs, C. (HHL)

  18. You will laugh.....crocs.......and they have some dressy ones now. They can be hot in the summer. You also have to be caeful when the bottoms get slippery. But they are like walking on marshmellows..

  19. Fall is my favorite! Your post is really getting me in the mood (despite the fact that it's 90 degrees here today!)

On shoes... for a really casual Saturday, I love to wear my Josef Seibel 'Caspian' sneakers. I have worn them all day, walking around St. Louis doing touristy stuff, and my feet felt great at the end of the day.

Another pair that are super cute and surprised me with how comfy they are is the Born 'Issa' sandal-- I bought them in Panna Cotta Silver color. They are, of course, a summer shoe, but lots of the cute shoes from Born I've found to also be comfortable.

I also bought the Antonio Melani ballet flat from Dillard's. It was just $59, goes with lots and is really comfy, but if I had it to do over again, I would spend a little more and go with the Vince Camuto shoe that is similar. The Antonio Melani Dillard's brand didn't hold up well, and the heel has elastic instead of being structured like the Camuto shoe, so at the end of the day I got a feeling that the shoe was kind of cutting in to my heel.

I'm still on the lookout for the fabulously stylish, uber-comfy shoe myself, so if you discover anything really wonderful, I'd love to know!

  20. Love the Fall outlook! {And I swear by Aerosoles, I was having extreme problems, and they "took me" back to being pain free! They are now the only shoes I wear!}

  21. You really get me in the mood for cozy fall evenings and long walks in the park... I also want to buy new clothes in the new fall colours! And you will laugh when I talk about shoes, but I can walk for miles on my UGG's. They're flat, warm in fall & winter and will take you anywhere. I know, they're not so stylish but still love mine... :-)
    All the best, Inge x

  23. I've found that Clarks are very comfortable and they have surely increased their style factor in the last couple of years. They have a sister brand Indigo that is more hip.

  24. Hi Debby!

I usually spend a little more to make sure I get a good quality shoe. Wedges sometimes work.. but it depends on the shape of your foot. I can wear heals longer than flats believe it or not. The DANSKO are really popular and there are a variety of styles.

Hope you had a great weekend Debby! I love these images. The pumpkin spice latte is now available at starbucks!

  25. Happy September, Debby! Can't believe it's finally here. There is a bit of a nip in the air in the early morning and evenings and I have to admit it's a bit refreshing. I'll be sad to see the summer go but there's so much to look forward to in fall.

As for comfy shoes, I'm right there with you. My feet used to hurt all the time. My faves are my French Sole flats. So incredibly comfy and they look amazing too :)

  26. Hi Debbie, beautiful photos! Just wanted to tell you what a beautiful job you did for Anita's blog....lovely and right on for the client! As for the shoes, I like the brand Geoxx, European I think but available in North America everywhere, they are stylish and known for their comfort. I purchased a pair of low cut booties on sale late this past winter, soft taupe suede with a small heel and walked all over Chicago with them that weekend. They are my go to brand for comfort! Well priced I think.
Always love your blog, first comment! N.xo

  27. You live in the best place in the world to experience Autumn... nothing beats New England for that!
And for your tootsies... maybe try and pair of Repettos ballerinas? They are a little bit pricey but they are really well made, will last a long while and are classic.

  28. Oh yes Fall is on the way and my most favorite time of the year. Lovely photos here, Debby....that tree lined street all lit with little lights is so lovely. I am still searching for a super comfy shoe. I'm picky when it comes to shoes because I like feminine shoes and most of the comfy ones seems a little "too clunky" looking for my taste. I love heels but can't stand in them all day and also adore ballet flats but for all day standing...not the best. I'll be curious to hear what you find.

  29. Hello dear Debby, knowing exactly what you mean about long hours on your feets and legs..
I would suggest that you bring a few pairs of your comfortable shoes to work...
With falls around the corner I always love wearing stylish low heel boots for long hours work
The trick is to vary your shoes during the day!
Have a lovely week on your feet...
    Luv Sonia, xo
