I had a sweet lady email me who has been through a hard season in her life. She lost her mother and her husband in a relatively short amount of time. After taking a year to grieve, she is ready to re-enter the work force and go after her dreams of having her own interior design business. She wanted to know how to market herself. I don't consider myself an expert by any means, and am not sure that I am in any position to be giving advice when there are so many unanswered questions as to what direction my own life is going.
What I did tell her was this:
Have faith and never lose hope. Life without hope is not living at all.
Believing in your abilities is the first step in accomplishing your dreams. Stay the course.
God doesn't allow us to experience pain in our lives for no reason. Although, we may not understand his reasons while we are going through it, trust that he has a better plan for you. Through your trials he is shaping you to help others, be stronger and grow emotionally.
On a lighter note, that photo is of my lovely daughter who went apple picking with her friend on Sunday. I came home from work to fresh baked Apple Crisp. Another reason to celebrate the new season!
What is your best advice for going after your dreams and creating the life you long to live?

I am someone who wants to cling to summer as long as possible, but yesterdays unusual 32 degree morning reminded me that I need to give up the fight. I am a quote person, so I tried to think of one that would respond to your question. The one I have hanging as you make your way from the house to the garage is " Be the change you wish to experience in the world". Have a great day. - Tonya
ReplyDeleteI love apple picking and fortunately we can do it right in our side field. Your daughter is cute Debby and how nice she's able to bake for you. As for advice I don't have any the only thing I can say is chase your dreams and never give up. If it's something you truly want to do you'll get there.

WOW DEBBY!
ReplyDeleteTHIS iS YOUR DAUGHTER???? She is just beautiful! Ohhhh....NEW ENGLAND....it captured our hearts for those 11 years we were there.....and we still refer to it as where we both "grew up." It was while I was living there that both my parents died of cancer in California...of course I was with them during their last 3 months of life, but after that, Ruben and I moved back to Boston and carried on.
Your advice is what I believe in. Faith is just that: BELIEVING IN SOMETHING YOU CANNOT SEE or even FEEL. HOPE is moving ONWARD even if you cannot see at the end of the dark tunnel. But love? LOVE remains forever and as long as we live each day of our lives in LOVE, LOVE ITSELF (God) will take care of the rest and will guide our steps. We are fearfully and wonderfully made and we soon enough figure out, with this God-give brain, what we are to do. I am learning that right now.
Your posts are always filled with breathtaking photos and heartfelt words that I so enjoy, EVERY MORNING!!! Anita
Your daughter is so pretty and those pictures are GOREGOUS!! Has me so in the mood to celebrate fall.....good advice. I do believe that though its hard to see the silver lining when things don't go well...in the end theres a reason. Always. Just not always easy to see the light at the end of the tunnel at that time, so faith, perserverance and belief in ourselves is key at times like that. Along with ushering in a new season is a time for rebirth and a time to allow dreams to come alive.....cheers to that and to all of us who have dreams, both big and small of our own!
ReplyDeleteLovely photo of your daughter and I enjoyed this autumn post - I finally gave in to the cool weather and wore boots instead of my ballet flats yesterday!

I was hoping that was your daughter...what a fabulous picture...she is a perfect ad for autumn beauty!! My advice is to take one day at a time...focus on all you can do that one day to reach goals and choose joy!! Be persistent...no matter what obstacles appear to take you off course. AND I agree with you!! Have FAITH...not fear! Remember fear stands for False Evidence Appearing Real...it is not real...we are all created for a purpose and it is so much fun to discover it and walk in it!
ReplyDeleteyour daughter is adorbs!
ReplyDeleteAdvice: never give up! and network, network, NETWORK! you never know who you will meet that will take you to that next step you are looking for. talk to everyone and hand out at least 10 business cards a day!

ReplyDeleteYour daughter is beautiful. I love this photograph, Debby!
I understand starting over, and it can be difficult, but like you sate here, you have to hang in there. It is also rewarding.
I would advise using the free social media present for all of us.
Happy Tuesday.

Debby - Your daughter is naturally beautiful! This photo radiates not only her outer beauty but her inner beauty. And she bakes!!! ... yum homemade apple crisp, simply divine.
ReplyDeleteYour post today and wise words were exactly what I needed to be reminded of... merci mon ami. Wishing you a bountiful autumn..xo C. (HHL)
I am SO happy Fall is here with its fresh possibilities & apple cider! I'm not in quite the same position but your advice really spoke to me. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThat is the best advice. Ever. Starting your own business is all about marketing yourself, and if you don't believe in yourself then people will see right through you. Beautiful, Debby. You have helped that woman more than you know.
ReplyDeleteI am going apple picking this weekend! Pretty excited :)
ReplyDeleteThat is definitely good advice above, Debby! Experiences are what make us stronger!
Debby, what a lovely picture of your daughter!! I'm sure the apple crisp was delicious :). All of your photos are so pretty.. Change of season is a great time to start anew. Your advice was perfect Debby ... Having faith, belief in one's self, and resilience... never giving up and ( as you say ) realize there are always reasons why life takes you on a certain path
ReplyDeleteYour daughter is so beautiful, great picture. We went apple picking last weekend but it wasn't cold enough to feel quite right. You dispensed good advice, experience in life and even tough times shape us to be better, I am convinced of that.
ReplyDeleteDebby,
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I could have said it better!! I do believe in taking care of yourself, so that you can give your best to others. Also, that when you can't think of what else to do...just make your bed. It gives you an immediate sense of calm, order and accomplishment. I also believe in surrounding yourself with beauty....flowers, artwork (my children's is my fav) and that goes for internal beauty...so people who lift you up.
Welcome fall!!!
xoxo Elizabeth
Such a pretty and sweet daughter. I agree with your advice. Having confidence in yourself is often easier said than done but keeping your eye on your goal and working towards that end usually pays off.
ReplyDeleteI love autumn.

You give her the perfect advices, Debby! one more, Don´t give up! Bronson, (Virgin) says that we must dedicate to any venture at least 10,000 hours before we dismiss it ... by my calculations, that would be about two years (if we sleep ... lol!)
ReplyDeleteBTW...your daughter is absolutely lovely, like her mom!
A big hug, dear!

Debby, this post touched my heart in so many ways. I, too love fall. Although I do enjoy summer and days relaxing poolside, I always love the fall season...the way the sunlight changes and seems to have that crisp glow to it...sleeping with the windows up and listening to leaves fall to the ground. I also lost my mother, my beloved Labradoodle and my sweet husband within 16 months of each other, then broke my back shortly after losing my husband. I am now in the process of opening my own antique and vintage jewelry business. We are kindred spirits indeed. Thank you so much for sharing. Cynthia, http://aloveofthepast-cynthia.blogspot.com
