As the days of August slip away from me, I find myself asking what the heck happened to my summer? It seems I haven't even had a minute to enjoy it and it's nearly over. Most of my summer was spent either at an emergency room, a lab, or a pharmacy filling countless prescriptions. Not exactly what I had in mind. The only good thing about this is that it saved me from having to squeeze into a bathing suit that I'm most certain would not be my most flattering look at the moment.
Even though summer doesn't officially end until September, for me back to school always signals the end of summer. There is already a fall-like briskness to the air this morning.

I have two weeks of August left to find my summer fun. I have put my priorities in check and they are as follows.
Obtain the biggest lobster roll on a toasted bun with a side of golden fries.
Get to the ocean and bury my feet in the sand (bathing suit will be questionable).
Get my mutt his summer haircut, he's looking shaggy (there were cutbacks this summer with the divorce and it was either his hair or mine...You can guess who won).
Have that stupid picnic I've been planning in my head for the past 2 years but never made the time to go on. I'm wondering if it will be as good as I've imagined it to be and who would be the most fun to bring along. I'm pondering if it's going to be one of those things that looks more fun in the images on Pinterest.
So, yes, this summer is not going down in the history books as the word's greatest summer. Lord knows I have had my challenges. The funny thing is...I still believe that when all of this stress is finally over, I will be (in the words of Tiffany from Dancing Branflakes), pee-my-pants happy. Some may argue I'm naive or perhaps my rose-colored-glasses are a bit too rosy. I have lived long enough to know that even when life gets extremely tough eventually things get better and I just KNOW there are great things out there for me. Next summer I'll be on Nantucket, eating countless lobster rolls, humming to myself while strolling cobblestone streets, feet buried in the sand, with the sun warming my skin. I'll see you there!
How has your summer been? Has it lived up your to expectations? Is there something you wanted to do this summer but haven't been able to fit it in? What was the funnest thing you have done this summer?

Good morning beautiful.....
ReplyDeleteI LOVE YOUR PHOTO CHOICES. That aqua patent leather clutch is.......fantastic.
LOBSTA ROLLS! Oh, how I remember those. EDGEWATER CAFE in Manchester-by-the-sea....wow. OH, do you know WOODMAN'S IN THE ROUGH in Essex? Definitely a bathing suit threat.....
You will bounce back. I KNOW IT. I invite you to come to my next blog post NEXT WEEK after Friday night. I JUST KNOW that there is hope beyond our understanding, and that we HAVE BEEN EQUIPPED with a survival mode to pick ourselves up again. I JUST KNOW YOU HAVE IT.
What is the funnest thing I have done this summer? Create. Hands down, CREATE.
Our morning air is becoming a lot crisper these days too, and my husband returns to school TODAY!!!!!!!!!!! All I can say is that I am so grateful that he has given me the chance to try out being a substitute for a couple of years and to give art a try. You never know....
OK MY DEAR, off to start another day of creativity. BE WELL and I so hope you get to Nantucket before the WINTER SETS IN...remember, there are those embracing fall days and nights that you can still explore in New England! LOVE! Anita
Oh but now I've seen pics, I'd also love to go to Nantucket at Christmas time, how magical would that be?
DeleteI love your postiive outlook and I think you WILL be strolling the streets of Nantucket, lobster roll in hand, happy as a clam too! No this summer has not been one to remember....busy, a bit stressful, not filled with as many 'fun days" as I would have liked and overall a bit underwhelming. Hoping as you want to, to make these last two weeks count (so scary that we are already down to the last two)!
ReplyDeleteWishing you many lobster rolls, many hours spent with your toes in the sand and a chance to cherish a few of the summer days we have ahead of us. On the bright side? Fall is spectacular, love the weather and its a new season so a time for new beginnings. Cheers to new chapters Debby!
keep the positive energy flowing Debby, Im sure good things will come after this! xxx
ReplyDeleteHi Debby, When I go back to teaching, my summer is over...so it's over! We also had rain this weekend and a little tad cooler mornings...that has made me long for fall. I know you are going to be stronger, more joyful, and take each day as a gift as a result of what you have been through. You are an amazing woman and you will persevere with strength and dignity, simply because you have children, friends, and family who will motivate you to keep going. Life isn't over yet! It is a gift!
ReplyDeleteI would love to try an all American lobster roll, they look incredible. Hmm, this summer has been neither here nor there for me.
ReplyDeleteI need to make my life more interesting, but I don't know where to start, hmm...
I wish I could call our summer a summer - the weather has been that lousy I feel summer has slipped by! Loving the sound of your lobster roll & fries - fancy sharing!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday Hun xoxo

This summer literally flashed before my eyes! I am headed to LBI Saturday to spend the week at the beach, shopping, riding my beach cruiser, and eating seafood- can't wait!!
ReplyDeleteWhat exquisite images and outfits! I know how you feel. I get the hints of fall already and HATE that summer seems to be leaving us swiftly. I wish you a wonderful week and a quick summer break to get in a few things.. you deserve it. Just had a lobster roll this weekend and the chunks of lobster were huge, but they smothered it with a bit too much mayo...nonetheless a summer treat, for sure and it was wonderful. GO GET ONE please.

It's amazing how quickly this summer seems to have flip flopped by. The one great think about it is that autumn will be upon us soon - my favourite season-. Our 7 year old Goddaughter is going to come for the last week of August and we can't wait to see what adventures she has in mind!! Hugs to you ...xo HHL

ReplyDeleteOur summer has been extremely busy with kids in all directions, but a family vacation was the highlight and I only wish it would have lasted longer. I am actually anticipating fall, as I like the order and schedule it brings. Hope you enjoy the rest of your summer and get your bucket list accomplished. Those pictures are just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you are getting everything bad out of the way, Debby. I think everything will be fabulous for you once the big "D" is over!
ReplyDeleteActually it has been too hot to be at the beach. I am looking forward to cooler weather.
I have learned in my years that you have to do things whether I have the time or not. Go have your picnic now!
Happy Monday.

I'm just smiling big time over here! You absolutely deserve to be pee your pants happy! I know it sounds odd considering how much you've gone through this past year, but when I come here I want your life- not because of what you've been through but because of your amazing outlook. You're an inspiration to us all.
ReplyDeleteYes! Time for the picnic, the lobster roll, and beach time Debby... and you are due for a "pee your pants happy" moment! :)

ReplyDeleteI haven't had a single lobster roll this summer...something I must remedy!!
ReplyDeleteSummer has been nice, but there is still much I want to do before school begins again! And, with your post as inspiration...I'm starting on my list tomorrow!!
xoxo Elizabeth
You have the best outlook on life Debby! You are a strong woman, hold your head up high and have such a positive attitude. You definitely inspire me. ood things are headed your way. There is no doubt. Wishing you a wonderful week my dear. XO
ReplyDeleteHonestly, our summer has not been a great one either. I don't blog a lot about all of the stuff that has really been going down here but suffice to say, we've had some rocky pain in the butt situations to deal with and it's pretty much sapped all of the fun out of our summer. I'm really anxious to try and make the best out of these last few weeks, and I hope you can too xo
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful images, Debby and I know you will have that lobster roll with your toes in the sand...here's to happy days ahead!!
ReplyDeleteDebby,
ReplyDeleteLet me look for it, too!! People are already talking about Fall trends, but here in CO the summer is present!!
Love your images pick.
Lobsterfest! Anchors away! Those nautical brass knockers have stolen my summer heart! So rich and regal, the perfect first impression for guests who never want to leave...ahhhhh such a beautifully vivid color story. I'm kinda over summer (total layers and fall type gal), but something in this kool-aid's got me pining for more! Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWould love to get your thoughts on my most recent hotel renovation when you get a chance! Hope to see you soon!

Peace. Love. LOL!

Hi sweet Debby ... so sorry to hear that you've had some medical issues to deal with this summer and I'm sending along some positive thoughts and hugs your way. I love how you wanted to take advantage of the last two weeks of summer and I hope you've gone on that picnic! Just pick the prettiest day, your favorite foods, a favorite person and a beautiful place you love and you can't go wrong! Oh ... and take photos and perhaps record the sound of the beach if you're by it so that when fall and then winter is really here, you can close your eyes and step back into summer again and again. ;). You're not alone in summer seeming to go by quickly ... we moved into a historical home that needed lots of work the last week of May and so this summer has been filled with lots of inside work and not as much sunshine as I would crave. I've tried to squeeze in a little summer every chance I could and step outside into the sun, even if it was just for an evening walk. It was a pleasure to have you drop by the blog today, Debby ... I'm now going to read back in your posts!! ~xoSandy

Your rose colored glasses are never too rosy in my mind! Just a lovely post indeed :) I agree, though, that Summer seems to be flying by so so fast… I have not been away at all, though for a very good reason which I explain in my post from the other day… I am holding onto the beautiful days of Summer too, and definitely, a picnic and maybe even a bike ride is in order! I hope that all is well -- I have been thinking of you very much this week & wanted to send a virtual hug, xxoo
