Beauty Obsessed + Mini Me

via
I was on the phone with my niece the other day and I said, "I NEED Sephora."

Niece: "OMG I know. Me too."

Me: "I know I need something there. I just can't remember what it is."

Niece: "Everything?"

Me: "I think I just need to be there. I really don't need anything."

I like being amongst the make up, the salesgirls who share my excitement of beauty products and get all fired up talking about the latest "this or that." I enjoy the music, the lighting, smelling every new scent and swiping every swatch of lipstick onto the back of my hand until I look as if I just stepped off the set LA Ink.

Niece: "Yes. I agree. We'll go."

Niece totally gets it. She's obsessed too. She knows too well the feeling upon entering the black and white striped storefront and being enveloped in a cloud of comfort that can only come from visiting one's happy place. She understands that lipgloss always fits and never ever makes your butt look fat. Kindred spirit. Mini Me. Soul Sista. Partner in crime.

Today I got a text from her.

Niece: "My neck, shoulder and back kills."

Me: "We need to save up and get a couples massage or a weekend getaway." This has me wondering if a "couple" of blondes would be bending the rules of what constitutes a couple?

Niece: "Oh, that sounds like a dream!"

Me: "We could sip champagne and eat chocolate covered strawberries."

Niece: "Yes!"

What is it about little beauty and pampering fixes that makes our world a little more bearable? Even a DIY home pedicure always lifts my mood. Speaking of which...I think I will go treat myself to a bath full of bubbles and some pretty colored toes.

What is your favorite little pick me up to get your beauty fix?

  1. Good morning, gorgeous blond!!!!

Well, for me, a quiet day and a lavender foot soak do it. Sleep does my face a LOT of good and just savoring a whole bottle of sparkling water after a good sweat is my beauty secret. But I LOVE to walk into OCCITAN and smell the clean fragrance of lavender. How are you feeling? How is the news on your tests and scans and such?

ENJOY EVERY MOMENT that makes you happy my dear; and with a family member? All the better. GREAT PICS!!!!!!! Anita

  2. I love getting a facial so I do once a month. Nothing like having your pores clean and your face glowing to give you that lift!

  3. I am with y'all on Sephora, and I can't mention the store to my daughter. Dangerous territory.
Have fun, and enjoy whatever you decide to do.
    Happy Wednesday.

  4. I LOVE to get facials! I feel so refreshed after! I did have a prenatal massage two weeks ago, it was very relaxing, but for me, facials are where it is at! I wouldn't mind a little champagne and strawberries too! I already told m husdband that I want a glass as soon as this baby is OUT! (count down to due date!)

  5. Girl .. you are speaking my language!! and if Mini-me niece can't getaway ... this friend has passport and will travel to a fabulous spa week-end. When I was able to do my at home pampering it was heaven! But I'm finally accepting that it's ok to have someone pamper you (mani/pedi/facials etc.) and it doesn't have to be a treat to actually enjoy!!

Have a fabulous day ...xo C. (HHL)

  6. This sounds like me and my daughter when we drive by an Ulta store! My favorite treatment is the microderm and a facial! Of course, I wouldn't mind tacking on a massage, a mani and a pedi....

  9. What a sweet niece you have! I enjoy being a woman .. shopping, a mani/pedi, a girls lunch. Debby, relationships with other women are so important - love writing about this on my blog - especially with all the issues you a dealing with!! The older I get the more I realize the importance of living in the moment and finding goodness in each day. Enjoy your day :)

  10. Your niece sounds like a sweetheart! I love being a girl for this reason alone....Sephora! What a totally fun store, I love looking at everything from the millions of skincare prodcuts to finding the worlds best bronzer (since I am good now and protect my face from getting bronzed the natural way). I just love touching trying, spraying, its all so much fun. It is SO important for us to do even little things to pamper our mind, body and soul!

  11. Today I was so overwhelmed with my kids (everyone's home..it's between camp and school) and my house (my cleaning help quit) that I literally felt I just needed some personal space. I told everyone I'm going to buy groceries and do errands and I got myself and mani and sat outside starbucks sipping my coconut mocha frapp by myself for about 1/2 hour. I felt like a new person and was ready to face the rest of my day!

  12. What a fun and very real post! What girl doesn't love Sephora? No matter what age! Your niece sounds like mine! So fun! My fun treatment today was an impromptu spa pedicure! And I got Purple With A Purpose on my toes! I think I like that title and will stick to it! Love the color too! Glad to see you are doing something fun for yourself! Love your fun, uplifting spirit Debby! It's contagious!
