That Inspirational Girl Series: #40 Beach Babe Bungalow

decor: lonny mag / beach lighting: style me pretty

I can't imagine anything being much more relaxing than being lulled to sleep by the sounds of the sea. The beach has the best soundtrack... crashing waves, seagulls serenading, children laughing, families chattering, teenagers giggling, and in my case a very stubborn, (but clever), dachshund scratching at the cooler because he KNOWS the good stuff is in there!

He really is a bad boy at the beach. Much to my horror, he once stole a Slim Jim right out of the hand of an unsuspecting seven year old, whose parents had made the unfortunate choice to set up camp close to us. I'm not sure whose face was more shocked, mine or the the child's. Our offending dachshund made off down the beach, Slim Jim, hanging from the corner of his mouth, leaving me to apologize profusely to the family. I swear if that mutt could have managed a victory dance he most certainly would have done so.

Do you have any funny memories from days spent at the beach?

  1. Thats a cute story...I am picturing him swaggering off slim jim hanging out of the side of his mouth! Lots of good times for us too.......I am absolutely most relaxed at the beach and find it to be the most soothing theraputic thing I can do.......nothing melts away the tension and pressures of life quite like the beach does. One of my favorite places to be!

  2. You're absolutely spot on, getting married on the beach is a dream that I've never really grown out of either. One of my favorite memories of the beach was when I was first able to stand on a surf board - after only two or three tries. It was a great that!

  3. My favourite place is the beach, in fact, I feel the most peaceful and most myself when I am near the ocean. My favourite memories are walking on the beach as the sunrises with my sister. We only manage to get there a few times a year, but every time it is well worth the wake-up time and the drive.

  4. I wish I did but the only thing Dylan likes to do on the beach is dig holes and try to roll in them. But he loves jumping at the waves and the husband tried to teach him, a dog, to body surf. I'm sorry but I had to laugh at your pup stealing the slim Jim.

  5. That story is hilarious! We always had dachshunds growing up so I can definitely get the visual! We will probably have many funny stories after this week at Hilton Head Island! Thanks for sharing this one and I loved the pictures and the post, by the way! The beach is my sanctuary for sure! I've often wondered if I'm part mermaid myself! :)

  7. I have no funny beach stories...especially that would match to this!! But, I do love the beach for relaxation. I used to love to take off to the Texas beaches during the winter just to relax and listen to the waves and the sea gulls. It is so refreshing. Our beaches are so crowded in the summer that I do not find it to be as much fun.

  8. teeeeheeee...when I was about 13, I almost drowned, or so I thought...in about 5 inches of water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The sea is my calling though I cannot swim. The sounds, the air, the peace, the color of the water. Oh Debby, you hit in on the head.

    Have a super day! Anita

  10. So FUNNY! And gorgeous and inspiring photos. I love the beach! We have a 'food hound' also. He grabbed a hotdog right out of my husbands hand that he had just taken from the fridge... our dogs are tall and love to counter-surf, so we keep food out of their sight unless we forget.... the worst offender is always waiting for our forgetfulness! and often is rewarded by his observational skills.

  11. I grew up with "summers at the jersey shore." sometimes there is lots of seaweed in the water that used to gross me out, but one day two of my best friend's and I, covered ourselves in the seaweed and totally looked like swamp people! Pf course everyone was pointing and staring, but it was so much fun!!

  12. Oh you know I can so relate to this! It's totally how I think.

And such a funny story about your dog. Cutie. I have lots of funny stories at the beach. And a few involve dogs actually. Once while in Vieques a dog came up to J and peed on her towel. We were just remembering it the other day :)

    LOVE this post, Debby! xoxo

  15. Love the beach ambiance! That bedding is gorgeous :)

So funny about the goodies available for our furry friends at the beach! My English Springer once jumped up and caught a black bird in mid flight.. in front of all to see. I simply said "oh! i can't believe my dog did that" ~ in reality I wasn't shocked at all. So embarrassing..

    have fun today :)

  16. Too funny! It reminded me of my Rio, who once stole a little stuffed animal right off a toddler's stroller! Not easy getting that back, and I'm sure his mom really didn't want him to have it after that! :)

  19. My best memory is spending all day at the beach and not budging from my chair and then lilghting a big fire at sunset and having smores at sunset with my family and my sister and her family. Then we packed things up and only had to walk about 100 feet to the wonderful little beach cottage they had rented for the week in the outer banks. It was heavenly. Hope we can do it again!
Cute story about your little guy.

  20. I once lot my favorite pair of rainbow brand flip flops to the tide only to find them several hours later 50 feet away from me and each other - what a joy!I was not expecting to get them back and was grateful because as a silly highschooler had not brought any other shoes on my trip. kami- from thebluekazoo
