That Inspirational Girl Series: #38 Amazing Grace

As much as I like to ramble on, sometimes I just really want to hear from you. Today I'm wondering about your spirituality and what you believe. Do you have a strong faith? Do you believe we are all part of a bigger plan?

Have you ever noticed that when things are the most difficult, then it's usually the hardest time to pray? Do you find comfort in prayer? Meditation? Have you had any important prayers answered? Did you receive the answer you expected?

Has your faith or belief system been altered or changed throughout the years? If so, how?

  1. I like the sounds of this girl! Yes I do believe in prayer and meditation...cannot get through a day without saying my prayers, just my OCD in me! Are they always answered? No but I believe in the power of them and find them comforting. What I have found is that even the hardest things/scenarios don't seem quite so bad the next morning.....so praying and a good nights rest are two ways to help get you through!

  2. Amazing grace...that pretty much sums up my life. Without God's grace, I would be a mess. With His unconditional love, forgiveness,I go through one day at a time knowing that I am completely here for many purposes and each day He will lead me to the one for that day. He has blessed me as a wife, mother, teacher, and encourager of women and gifted me to do all of these tasks...but without Him, I could not do it. It takes "prayer without ceasing." It takes practicing amazing grace.

  3. I absolutely believe in the power of prayer. Answers do not always come quickly or perhaps I fail
to recognize those answers wanting to will the answer I prefer. I have felt His guiding power
my entire life although I do not feel I have always been deserving. The most profound peace and
deepest joy have come to me through prayer.

  4. I believe in the power of prayer but you have to remember that even though you may not like God's answer he always answers you. I feel him strongest and feel closer to him outside in his world I think that is what makes our property feel so special to me.

  6. Above everything else I believe in fate, that whatever is meant to be is what will happen. I do meditate (do yoga 4 times a week) and find this by far to be the most peaceful part of my day. Think its important to center and collect our thoughts, and however we do it is our choice but its important to find a way to redirect ourselves when life feels crazy.

  7. Hello my sweet friend!
We have spoken before of my faith in God. I can't imagine going through a day without Him. I have found that the older I get the less time I spend in controlled worship or praise...but in the everyday moments...acknowledging His presence in everything I do...no matter how mundane or trivial.
I am thinking and praying for you!

  8. What interesting questions! The song "Amazing Grace" sums it up for me. What mercy, this undeserved, un-earned grace that has been poured out to the world, God's love demonstrated through His Son ~ who shines His beautiful light into the darkness. My life has been touched by His beauty and grace, and my prayers flow out to Him throughout the day and night, laying my cares at His feet. Many prayers have been answered, others I'm still waiting for in faith. I believe: what God has revealed about Himself through the Bible, which tells of His story for the world from its beginning through the end, and into eternity.

Thank you for asking such deep questions!

  9. God means everything to me, and I'd hate to think of what my life would be like without Him in it. My belief is that if a person accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, then they will be given the gift of eternal life and the Holy Spirit comes into their heart. All other ways fail to lead one to God. I believe that He always answers prayer, just not always the way we think it should be answered. I find that it is generally during trials and tribulations when we most need Him, that we tend to head in the opposite direction, instead of seeking refuge in His arms. This one quote always sticks in my mind, "this one thing you must remember, this one thing you must know, He cannot take your burden, until you let it go." It's amazing how often we want to cling to those burdens that drag us down, when we should release them to Jesus "whose burden is easy light."

  10. I always joke that religion is my religion- meaning my life is basically my faith. Everything I do is based upon it. People always ask why I'm so happy- it's because of my faith. I would never change anything about my life because I know I'm on the right path, not just temporally but spiritually. I'm at peace and that is the most invaluable gift God could ever give me. PS... I'm LDS.

  12. Yes it has changed. I grew up Catholic, attended Catholic school, as did my daughter (went to the Vatican for my high school graduation).
I find I identify more with being a spiritual Christian than anything else these days.
I do believe my life is being guided and all things happen for a reason. Trusting it all is an enormous relief.
I pray but mostly just thankful prayers and for comfort for others.
Always seems silly to ask for things for myself, seems trivial.
I remember when friends joined us for dinner after the death of my beloved aunt (years ago now). Their son said the prayer before we ate and at the end, he asked God to "give Jeanette the strength she needs to understand and accept your plan". Wow, the adults all just stood there dumbfounded - he was about 11 years old at the time.

  13. I was raised Catholic but now I would just say that I am a spiritual person. I've actually been looking for a church. I like the ritual and feeling part of a community. Having somewhere to go to collect my thoughts and reflect. xoxo

  14. I was raised Catholic and also attended an all-girl Catholic school at one point. I do consider myself to be spiritual but don't attend church on the regular basis. The church we went to with the kids was Lutheran. We wanted to expose them to religion and then allow them to make their own choices as adults.

I agree with Dawn, churches are a place to stop and reflect, and a wonderful way to connect with community and help those in need.

  15. I definitely believe in the power of prayer! I have witnessed God's amazing grace in my own life as well as others. I never ceased to be simply in awe when I pray about something in particular, something I may be struggling with or a family member of friend in need. The answers are not always recognized or it may not be what I want to hear, but sometimes they are loud and clear and are answered in the most unique ways that I know God is speaking directly to me. My prayers are usually thankful in nature too, but lately I've been praying more for God's will in my life and have received more "answers" or guidance than ever before...

  16. Debby I just LOVE this!!! Gorgeous and so inspiring :) I have always believed it is so important to turn worries into prayers... and when I do I feel such a sense of comfort...and quite honestly I continually find my prayers being answered. I believe God has a plan for my life and when I put my life into HIS hands and trust in HIM (rather than taking them into my own) life falls into place :) Have a beautiful day! x0x0

  17. Gorgeous post and redesign. I'm definitely a girl that believes in a higher power and a bigger plan, nothing brings me greater comfort than to sit quietly and talk to that higher power.

  20. I have faith in God. I believe we are watched over by God and his appointed Angels. I believe in our toughest times we learn so much about who we, our strength and we persevere more equipped to fulfill our life purpose whatever it may be. For the good and the bad I just say thank you to God because usually somewhere in the pain or triumph he gives us a gift.

    Beautiful post Debby.

    Love,

    Jen
