Book Giveaway: Enter to win a copy of Paris In Love by Eloisa James, (love this book)!
Do you follow every fashion trend? Do you always have to have the next "it" item? Are you letting glossy fashion magazines dictate your personal style? If so, your style might not be very personal at all.
I'm a big advocate of wearing what you love and what you feel the most beautiful in. If an item speaks to you, buy it - it must suit your personal style or you wouldn't be drawn to it. Don't worry whether or not the item is the latest issue of Vogue or Elle. The most fashionable woman didn't follow the latest trends, they created them. Take Audrey Hepburn, Coco Chanel, and Jackie O. for instance...the grace in which they carried off their individuality made them fashion icons.
You are unique, you are beautiful, and you only have one life. Don't we have enough people telling us what to do? It's your life to style as you please. Dress accordingly.

I wearing a scarf today that looks a lot like the curtains in your post!! I do not have the money to follow the trends...and I have created a formula to help me develop my own personal style! If anyone is interested, it is one of the pages on my blog....beautiful thoughts as always, Debby!
ReplyDeleteI know what I like. I try to follow that. The few times I have attempted to change for "style" sake, it has been a disaster!! Even if it was only in my own mind....
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not one to wear whats in unless I really love it. I have always marched to the beat of my own fashion drum, just buy and wear what I like.....have always pitied fashion vicitms because to me anyone who succumbs to every trend is very insecure and just not in touch with what they like and what they feel good in, thinking th!e clothes or trend will "make them". Thankfully, I stick to what I like......such gorgeous images, as usual
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love fashion & clothes, so I do follow trends, but I also know what suits me, so wouldn't wear something JUST because it's on trend...I have to love it also!!
ReplyDeleteLove the orange & pink decor in the shots!
Happy Monday Hun xoxo

I so agree. I wear what looks best on me and keep things to a minimum, expect the JEWELRY!!!! Give a string of pearls and some diamond studs and a simple outfit and I feel like Audrey!!!!
ReplyDeleteGREAT COLLAGE MY DEAREST! Anita
So true - style is about knowing what suits you, what makes you feel good and selecting carefully from the trends. The colour combinations here are just amazing.

Great advice. When I was young I was obsessed with the latest fashions.
ReplyDeleteI haven't bought new clothes, other than a shirt here and there in about a year. Been busy and haven't cared all the much about it. Comfort is my main goal these days. OH, did buy a new pair of hiking shoes this month, not sure that counts as "fashion" :)
I barely read fashion mags these days...
ReplyDeleteNo, I definitely don't follow every fashion trend or run for the 'it' item, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy them. It's always fun to browse through fashion magazines or websites to see what's 'in' but the most fun part is to see people with a great sense of style work it and make it their own. That is my favourite ;-)
ReplyDeleteI do follow trends and if something really appeals to me I try it out. I am a risk taker in that dept but surpisingly not in my home, I don't follow trends for the home just fashion. I think having a few very trendy daughters has an effect on me!
ReplyDeleteReading Vogue is such a treat, but as for the trends I don't play fashion follow the leader. I'm of the mind that if it make me feel good and it complements my body then it's the right thing for me.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, but I do feel it is important to stay current so when I see a trend I see if it will incorporate into my existing wardrobe and look. I just wrote a post on that today. Pastels are one of the many current trends and I evaluated which piece and which color would look good in my existing wardrobe. I ordered it from JCrew and couldn't be happier. This is a great post and wonderful advice!! Wish we could go shopping together!! Happy Monday sweet girl,xo Kathysue
ReplyDeleteOh, I definitely need to remember that when shopping. I get caught up in what's in and what's not far too often. Not just that, but how will people perceive me if I wear such and such. My closet is suffering because of that.
ReplyDeleteI never follow the style unless it is something I love. I am very conservative, but love to add something crazy at times.
ReplyDeleteI am in love with the images here, Debby!
Happy Monday.

I love all the pink. I really like the painting, I wish I could find a print to hang in my bedroom.
ReplyDeletei need to live in picture number 2

I love that hardwood floor! Gorgeous images Debby :)
ReplyDeleteClothes - Not frilly, tailored. I will occasionally add a trendy piece and sill wear heels and wedges. I make an attempt to stay current and dress seasonally (all these lovely pastels!). As I've gotten a little older, I think it's appropriate to be a bit more conservative (dropping the skirt length from mini to knee :) and I like a soft/flowing look.

Well said, Debby! I like to look current, but definitely do not want to look like everyone else. That's what makes personal style - it has to be yours!!

I do love trying to incorporate new styles in my home and wardrobe to keep them updated. With my home, I love antique furniture, but adore adding a lucite piece or sunburst mirror to keep the rooms from looking too serious. Love the freshness of these images...
ReplyDeleteVery well stated! It's all about what you love, not what others love.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week :)
I do love this girl especially !!!
ReplyDeleteYou are just so much fun.
Love you too...

I don't generally look good in trendy clothes so I usually mix classic pieces with a dash of something that is 'in'.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love this: "It's your life to style as you please. Dress accordingly." xo
I completely agree. I never feel like myself when I've tried to dress in the latest style. I try to chose classic pieces usually but every so often I'll try to branch out and end up feeling like I'm in costume. It's so much better to stay true to yourself and pick what you love and feel good in. I heard once that rather than being overwhelmed by trying to decorate an entire room or house, if you choose pieces you truly love you'll have have a place for them. I think it's the same with your closet.
ReplyDeleteLoved this: "Are you letting glossy fashion magazines dictate your personal style? If so, your style might not be very personal at all."
I don't follow the latest styles either, sometimes I'll see a new piece, try it and think "what am I doing?" I think it's about becoming comfortable with yourself and knowing who you are. I just have to say, I love the chair in the picture you've posted. Gorgeous!
