Perfect Endings

Bad endings stink. We leave the theatre disappointed that we wasted our time and money seeing a film that ended lousy. When relationships end poorly, we are left with unresolved issues that often become the very baggage we drag into our next relationship. When our flight is delayed, or our luggage lost, while returning from vacation, our relaxed vacation mode goes immediately out the window.

Good endings are so much better. Finding a impeccably frosted cupcake at the end of a shopping adventure. Sitting down to write a heartfelt note for the friend who made your birthday special. Being welcomed at the door by your ecstatic, tail wagging,  four -legged friend at the end of a very long work day. Holding your precious newborn in your arms after 20 hours of intense labor and experiencing pure unadulterated love. Yup. Good endings rock.

When was the last time you had the experience of a perfect ending?

  2. Hummm.....perfect not so sure I have had. But I would say the building of our home after almost four loooooong years had a happy ending in that it came out just as we had hoped. Still lots to be done, and life is far from being without stresses but that experience definitely had a happy ending (at a time when I was in doubt it would ever end at all...lol)!! Love the images, they tell such a pretty story.

  3. You are writing about cupcakes...I am writing about chocolate...sounds like perfect endings to any day! I have actually learned that there are few real perfect endings...we determine by our attitudes and choices if we will turn our ordinary days into perfect ones. Maybe my students whined and I had bills due and tomorrows provisions are not secure...but I can choose to enjoy the beautiful sunset, breathe in the fresh air, and find the perfect ending beauty around me! (with a little chocolate and cupcakes on the side!!)

  5. I might agree with Tina, in that Perfect is a tough word. After losing my husband to a rare disease this past year, I am now consulting with families through out the country who are also affected. We had no support, so if I can change that one thing for these people, it is a perfect ending to our tragedy.
Oh, that and brownie a'la mode!

  6. Beautiful post, Debby! I guess we all desire the perfect ending, but I have learned to be content with what is in my life. I appreciate many small moments each day. That is what it is all about.

  10. Love happy endings. Last one that happened in my life was my son making a baseball team he was really really wanting to make. It was a big worry off our shoulders for his sake! Life doesnt' always bring a happy ending but when they happen its a great treat.

  12. I just had a good ending a half hour ago. Dylan dog and I just got back from our hike and he looked at me and came over and sat between my legs for a hug. Nothing like a great hike in the forest and then having your puppy say thank you with his big brown eyes! Yep, good endings are the best!

  13. I love happy endings! Well good endings I guess I should say... Last good ending I had was watching the Rangers win last night when they were on the brink of elimination. I actually woke up in a good mood from it :)

    Happy Tuesday, Debby! xoxo

  14. My favorite way to end a day is to take a walk with my love, especially as the sun is setting. Then coming back and eating some dessert. I love that.

  15. It sounds corny but I think every night when my husband gets home from work, he takes our puppy to the dog park for an hour. I have this time to myself, then they get home and we hunker down together. Now, if there was a perfectly frosted cupcake to boot - perfect day!

  17. Loved this post, yes wish everything had a happy ending. I think getting through the day with my mind and wit still in tact after all I do in a day makes for a happy ending.

  18. Hi Debby,

I wish everything had a happy ending too. Over our life time we have so many different experiences, each leaving us with a lasting mark. Baggage is a part of life. I choose to keep those sad endings in a mental box, while the happy endings are free to move around the cabin!

That skirt at the top is gorgeous!

  20. Debby,

I so love a happy ending! Alas, last year was chock full of bad endings (well, maybe they weren't completely endings) and so this year, I am really appreciating every single happy ending that comes my way.

And, a perfectly frosted cupcake counts twice!!

  24. I am with you. Do you remember the movie message in a bottle? At least I think that was the name, well it ended so badly. I hated that movie. It made you feel awful! Good endings are so much better. Its the American dream.

  25. You always have wonderful and heartfelt posts, Debby. The dog at the end put a big smile on my face. There is nothing like our 4 legged buddies. Yes, love good endings. I had that yesterday when my husband walked though the door with a gorgeous bouquet of French white tulips. The perfect ending to a not so good day. I wish lots of good endings for you Debby! XO

  28. I'm all for happy endings too. I remember I used to read a lot of Nicholas Sparks books, all romantic but the endings were usually not 'happy' in the conventional sense but there was always something beautiful about it...so now I try to look for the beauty in not so happy endings - sometimes there just aren't any! :(

  29. Today felt like a perfect beginning but I still wanted to share with you. My daughters boyfriend took my husband and I to lunch and asked for our blessing to marry her. It was absolutely perfect. It was glorious to sit there and listen to this 30 year old man tell how how much he loves our daughter and how she is just perfect for him. I just sat there taking it all in and promising myself that I will remember this forever! Perfect.
