Barefoot + Fancy Free

In my dreams I am puttering around barefoot in my beach cottage, arranging multicolored hydrangeas from my yard in beautiful vases and taking leisurely naps on my hammock while birds serenade in the background.  Don't we all strive to be barefoot and fancy free? How many days out of the year do we truly spend when we are not in a harried state of mind? Not enough.

It's possible that the only time some people are barefoot and fancy free is one week a year on their vacation, (and even then it takes them a few days into their vacation to begin to unwind and enjoy themselves)! Why are we strung so tight? How can we get back some of the carefree playfulness from our youth?

This past year has been a struggle for me. Emotionally. Physically. Financially. Do I have everything sorted out? No. What has it taught me? It has taught me that perseverance is key to creating the life you wish to live, but it's not going to happen overnight. All worry and no play makes for a miserable existence. Fun doesn't just come knocking at your door, you have to seek and create your own fun. You can worry endlessly and toss and turn all night, or you can choose to believe that you are part of a bigger plan and it's all going to turn out great in the end.

I'm barefoot as I type and I'm fancy free at the moment so I'll take it!

When do you feel the most carefree and playful?

  4. OK...I'll admit it, I am a worrier...I tend to overthink everything and I'm always looking at the "what if" in every situation!!!! I wish I could let my mind rest sometimes....life would be so much easier!!! Although I am sitting here barefoot at the moment...I'm looking at the clock...it's time to go put my shoes on and head to work!!! LOL

    Have a great day Debby!!!

  10. I always imagine myself just as you- barefoot in my backyard among flowers and the ocean. Will I ever get there? It's a goal of mine so I certainly hope so.

  11. Taking time to play is so important!! I use to work hard and play equally hard (if not harder at times..lol) but these past few years have been devoted to getting back on my feet and even though we have taken some beautiful trips, I would always feel guilty about being away from therapies, as I knew it a week away would set me back sometimes a month or two.

Your post has me thinking ... the next trip I'm going to enjoy it... worrying hasn't made the set backs less. So I will go into not thinking it's going to fine "this time" but being honest and knowing I WILL enjoy the time and deal with the other stuff after. Life is too short not to take a few breaks throughout the year!! Hugs my friend..xo HHL

  14. Oh me too Debbie, I want exactly that and you are so right I am a complete pain for the first few days of a holiday, I'm so so tightly wound, I would love to change but I'm not sure how to.
You have had a tough year, if you were closer I'd drag you out for cocktails!

  15. I totally agree Debby!
I feel the most carefree and playful...at home, with my boys, of course and in my parents house, without fail, every time I get together with my younger sister she makes me laugh to the point of tears, and I fell like a carefree girl again!
    Lovely post, like usual!
Thank you for leaving a comment, I love it!

    Big hugs!

  16. About once per month I am lucky enough to try and stay home (during the week) for one full day. It forces me to get all those little odds and ends tied up around the house but it also helps me to relax and unwind. I hope you had a lovely Easter weekend with your children.
Thanks for the reminder to take a deep breath and smell the roses!

  20. I'm a pretty tightly wound person so it's definitely a vacation that makes me barefoot and fancy free! And oh boy, I'd love one right about now :) xo
