That Inspirational Girl Series: #30 Seaside Reverie

Ahhhh... yes... the seashore never fails to take my breath away. As a little girl afternoons at the beach consisted of building sand castles and searching for sand dollars.  As a teenager beach days meant soaking in the rays, listening to tunes, and searching for cute guys. As a Mother I got to relive my youth as my children provided the perfect excuse to dig in the sand and a beach chair became the perfect spot to spend a lazy afternoon absorbed in a summer read.

Throughout the decades one thing has remained the same. The affect the ocean has on me is humbling. I can't stare at the magnificent vast blue sea and watch the tide come in without feeling minuscule. There is an instant reckoning that I am part of a much bigger plan. My world is somehow put into perspective and my cares wash out with the tide.

What affect does the ocean have on you?

  9. Yes!
I feel the same. We spent 12 hours in the car this weekend but the reward was waking up and being able to head straight to the beach to watch the sun come up. Nothing like it. There were dolphins playing in the waves and dogs playing on the beach. I felt like the luckiest girl in the world (and my daughter was with us so huge bonus).

  17. I was browsing through your previous posts and I think I got drunk from all the beautiful photos ... sigh! What a dose!
And I see that you also have a new spring layout.

I love the ocean; it sure puts everything into perspective and it leaves me rejuvenated. I love feeling the sand on my toes and I also love being around cruising boats.

I'm slowly catching up on blogs after my forced blog break. We are enjoying such a gorgeous spring weather. It's nice to simply turn off the computer, stay outside and enjoy the sun.

  18. I am drawn to the ocean like a bee to a flower. The sound. The sight. The smell. I could stay there all day. And, I do love that my children have given me the perfect excuse to poke my toes in the sand and stay there a while!

  19. Being near the ocean has always had that effect on me as well. We go down to the gulf coast about 2-3 times a year. It's so intoxicating, the sound of the waves, the warm breeze, the smell, the sea gulls. It completely restores my soul! Beautiful post Debby!

  22. Debby, When I see the ocean I immediately take a deep sigh and feel that all is well with my world. when I see the vastness and the might waves it makes me realize the grandness of my God! How vast his love is for me, it is a spiritual place for me. It is also a place I hold dear to my heart since this is where my sweet hubby and I alway choose to go to get away and just be together. love that,
From one fellow girl of the sea to another,

  24. One day I will live by the ocean. It has such a calming and peaceful effect on me. I can really be in the moment. It makes problems or conflicts easier to grasp and handle and gives me a better outlook on them, if that makes sense. I am able to regroup. So much serenity at the ocean. Hope your week is going well my dear.

  25. Debbie, I am the same way. We go to the beach a lot. It is so humbling to look out to the expanse of the blue sea. It puts things in perspective.

  26. Growing up on the beaches of Southern CA (and taking many tropical vacations) I have LOTS of memories - my youth, my kids growing up, the peaceful feeling of the warm sun on my skin while listening to the waves and laughter in the distance. My husband and son are both scuba certified.. something I can't do because I'm claustrophobic and don't like being under water too long (I was left on the Finding Nemo submarine ride at Disneyland too long and felt anxiety building!). My daughter and I enjoy a quick swim and then we feel cold and come in to get back to our books!

I too am humbled by the power the ocean has as well as the large creatures that live in the water! When we are vacationing on the islands I always tell my husband I will snorkel ONLY if we go to a place where there are no sharks or large fish.. ha!

Love this nautical theme and I am looking forward to a little break from this long winter we are having!

  29. Darling one,

I so missed everyone yesterday in Blogland....the ocean? Well, having lived in Beverly Mass., right across from Beverly Cove, it was a therapeutic event DAILY to come home from Beverly Hospital where I worked to walk on the beach with Ruben. THERAPY it is for me, the beach.

  30. How is it possible that I feel like I can relate to all of your inspirational girls. I love this series. For me, the ocean is exactly as you describe of. It makes me feel small in a big world and it help calm me and put things in perspective. I love staring out at it and wondering about what's going on on the other side. One day I'll have a house with a view of the sea... one day.
