Spring In My Step

Last week we hit record breaking temperatures here in the Boston area. Us New Englanders got a bit of a reprieve from the cold and you can bet we all reveled in it. Car windows were rolled down, with their driver's hair blowing in the wind and music seeping out from within. Prep school kids were spotted leaving local coffee shops in shorts and flip flops with chilled concoctions in hand. It seemed as if every pooch in town was out for a walk with their owner.

Funny, how the world comes alive in the spring. Not only did my forsythia and pear trees begin to blossom, my entire town seemed to blossom with the warm weather. I love my town. Sure, I fantasize about relocating to quaint Nantucket or living in a Paris loft, but this is where I raised my kids. It's home. The rolling hills, postcard perfect town center, and the people who make up the community are as big of a part of me as my limbs.

Where is home for you? What do you love the most about where you live?

  1. Gorgeous images. Home for me at the moment is Seville, Spain (it has been for the last 12 years), where the smell of the orange trees/orange blossom is breath-taking this month. However, I will be returning to my "real" hometown in August-London. So some new "nesting" will take place then ;-)

  3. Everything about the Boston area where I lived will always be a fond memory of growing up together with Ruben as a married couple. Challenges like I never expected occurred during my 11 years in Beverly, S. Hamilton and Rockport. Oh Debby, PINK IS ALIVE IN MASS.!!!! Anita

  8. I could just sit on that terrace with a good book and have a cup of tea and a while away the day. Such beautiful images.Fir me it is Atlanta that holds a special place in my heart as it was there I was born and raised. But for the last decade or so South Carolina has been home. The pace is a little slower and I can go from the Blue Ridge mountains to the beaches of Charleston in a mere 4 hours. In the end though, home is where family and friends reside.

  9. NY is my home. I've lived in the city and the suburbs, but knowing I can have the best of both worlds is a wonderful option.

  11. I always keep forgetting to tell you how much I love your new header. Gorgeous!

And I just loved this post. When the end of the photos came, I went, "more! more!"

To answer your question, I love my hometown because it's where I grew up. It's safe, there's a river and a levee I can walk on, and my friends and family are close.

  15. I'm ready for Spring to spin back by for good. I loved our little tease, but please come and stay a while!

I am embracing where I am, but I was thinking today about how much I loved living in Charlotte, NC when my boys were really small. And, I do feel the need to get back to Dallas. But, this is home now and the forsythia is out and everything else is ready to bloom.

Here's to blooming where you're planted!

  17. I love everything about being Texan and all of the cultures which melt together to make the state special. I know, I know...we are prideful! But that is part of what makes it special...we love being here! The fields of gorgeous wildflowers in the spring just make me smile and the Texas hill country is gorgeous...that is why it attracts many celebrities to live there. It's not true that we still tie up our horses in front of the house...but, if I had a horse, I just might do that!

  19. I live in a quaint little countryside call Knowlton, Lake- Brome in Quebec, Canada!
Where 50% is french spoken and the other half is English! I live across the lake where I get to see ducks every day during summer time and the mountain view from my living room is fabulous during winter time
I am 45 min away from the US border, 1 hour drive from Stow Vermont!
I could not ask for better place to live...

  20. Boston is a very very special place, I remember when my son was in college there, I looked for excuses to go visit him. Like if he had a sniffle, I wanted to drive the four hours to bring him Nyquil...lol. LOVE Boston, well NY it is for now. But truth be told I would love to have a place here and a place in Napa Valley and the Hamptons (Montauk) off the beaten bath, a quintessential "beach cottage" really quaint and pretty but beach-y and a great Napa-ish place to get away too....sounds good huh? No worries, Debby you can come visit me!
