Life Is A Picnic

via
Last summer I had a list of fun things planned. Going on a picnic was one of them. Between getting my son ready for college, and life just getting in the way, I never made the time. One of the lessons I have learned as of late is that fun isn't just going to magically appear on my doorstep. I am learning to create fun in my days, smile more, laugh more and reconnect with my inner child. When my kids were little and we would visit their cousins, my sister would place a picnic tablecloth on the living room floor for the kids to eat. You would have thought it was a magic carpet the way their faces lit up.  It might be too cold in Boston to have a true alfresco experience but I'm thinking one is never too old to have a picnic indoors.... plus no bugs! What's on my menu? Roasted eggplant, tomato + goat cheese on a crispy baguette drizzled with olive oil, prosciutto + melon slices, and of course strawberries dipped in chocolate.  When was the last time you went on a picnic? What would be on your menu?

  2. I love picnics. Last one I had was last summer but I'm already itching for another. A picnic indoors sounds lovely!

Have a great weekend, Debby. Hope you get to have one. :) xoxo

  3. I would love to be sitting at the table by the lake...gorgeous! I learned not to put too high of expectations on my fun...maybe you should just start by having a picnic at home in front of the fireplace or on a patio and gradually move toward a picnic at a more exotic place...then you do not have "fun" hanging over your head! Little things mean alot to family!

  4. I love picnics! We had several last summer, in our front yard, it's private, on a hike while sitting on a boulder. Everywhere you are is the perfect time for a picnic!

    Happy Friday!

  5. Going on more picnic's is one of my New Years Resolutions! I love love love them, although the idea of them is way better than the mosquito/ant reality. I'm a wine, fruit and cheese, and some good bread kind of a picnic gal. My grandmother, bless her heart, used to bring full dinners on her picnics - she was like Martha Stewart on steroids! hehe And as always, your pictures are to die!! Wherever do you find them?! Good gracious...right click, save! They are my screen savers! Have a wonderful day!

  12. Picnics are such fun. When the snow flies the little man and I have been known to have carpet picnics from time-to-time. And yes...create your own magic, fun, and adventures!

  13. A picnic is a wonderful idea! Now you have my wheels turning, Debby. We received a picnic basket as a gift a couple years ago and I don't think we have ever used it. This weekend sounds perfect! Our weather is glorious right now but I also love the idea of one indoors without bugs. Maybe head to the Napa Valley and have a variety of cheeses, a French bread baguette, and yes, strawberries dipped in chocolate. Your header is so pretty and colorful. A touch of spring!

  14. Salads, assorted cheeses, baguette (yum!), a sparkling beverage, and YES to strawberries dipped in white and dark chocolate! Looks like my picnic will be indoors. Seattle weather is hit and miss until June -

Debby, have a wonderful weekend and thank you so much for always stopping by to leave a sweet and thoughtful comment. You are a very dear person and I can tell you wear your heart on your sleeve. YOU are the inspirational girl!

  15. Definitely fun to switch things up every once in a while - keeps the brain sharp. I think I'd like to have a FUNdue picnic...ya know, sit on the floor around a sterno flamed fondue pot, dipping things like mini-meatballs and cubes of grilled polenta, baguettes, fruit, good wine etc. Sort of like a mini campfire that stirs up good conversation. p.s. The Food Network's "recipe of the day" today is Perfect Fondue, so I'll credit them with the idea.

  19. Sounds good and inspiring...love the new header!!!
From my window there is a storm going on here in Canada and it looks like Winter Wonderland, so my picnic will have to wait a little longer!

  22. Love the new header!! Your idea for a picnic sounds fantastic. I can't remember the last time I was on one, which means it has been far too long. Your menu sounds delish! I'm a big fan of strawberries and cream: fresh strawberries, slightly sweetened and barely whipped heavy cream poured over the top. Mmm.. so guilty!

    Have a great weekend!

  23. Your menu sounds divine. In summer in Mammoth Lakes, we like to take pretty day hikes in the mountains and it's fun to take a picnic and sit on big granite boulders around the lakes.

  25. I love that your quest for creating fun in your life continues! We were actually planned to have a beach breakfast picnic this weekend to celebrate the end of summer. Unfortunately it is currently raining, and storms are predicted for Sunday as well so that plan is being revised :)
Indoor picnics are always fun, sometimes my sister and I get sushi and have a Japanese picnic when there isn't anyone else at home! Bonus - our own movie theatre on call :)
