What is it about the ocean that puts everything into perspective? A few weekends ago my daughter and I took a spur of the moment day trip to Maine. It was dusk as we drove along the winding road dotted with beautiful ocean view homes. The homes glowed from within and made for a stunning contrast against the darkening sky. We stopped at the lighthouse and braved the January winds to mark the moment with a photo.
We stood in front of the lighthouse, wind whipping hair into our eyes, arms around one another, smiles plastered across our faces, as we waited for the automatic timer to take our photo. In those few seconds while we waited for the flash to go off, I felt an awareness of being fully alive, and completely in the moment. I was in an amazing spot with my favorite girl. When you are totally present in a moment it becomes a magical memory that you envision in flashbacks for years to come.
When was the last time you were completely living in the moment?

How fun the two of you took a little day trip:)
ReplyDeleteWhen I go to Hawaii, I always tell Chloe to stop and take a look around to remember the moment....it never comes again too quickly.
Happy Monday lady!

I used to live in Maine. Oh that is such a lovely feeling, I'm 'in the moment' quite a lot, I'm quite insular and that's my natural state.
ReplyDeleteFor now, THIS. What a beautiful reminder of my life in Boston, now 15 years ago. The ocean has a way of stopping you in your daily tracks and luring you back to where you belong: IN THE MOMENT.
ReplyDeleteLovely dearest! Anita
I guess it's exactly as you said it, when you are aware of being fully alive, you are in the moment..I felt exactly the same way yesterday when i was having a discussion with my 2 girls, a totally engrossing discussion sprinkled with laughter and intimacy...
ReplyDeleteAmazing how the beach has such a calming presence. Happy that you could have such a time with your precious daughter.
ReplyDeletehave a nice Monday, Debby.

I believe it was this morning when enjoying my coffee and biscotti when everyone had left for work/school ;-)
ReplyDeleteLove that story of you and your daughter. You two seem to have a really strong bond and I love the fun stuff you do together.
Wow, what a lucky pair you are indeed! I don't know the US well at all, but the description makes me want to go to Maine!
ReplyDeleteAs for the last time... this morning! 8am pilates class before going into lectures... my "me time".
How wonderful Debby! What a great experience. And you were brave to do that in Jan! Last time I felt that way was in Vieques. J & I had a beach all to ourselves and were swimming in the Caribbean. It was magical and I felt so alive.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Monday! xoxo
When in Maine, I am completely in the moment. Maine is truly the place that touches my heart and am blessed to renew my energy every summer in the magnificent Maine landscape, surrounded by amazing beaches and water. My life is so hectic, busy, constantly multi tasking, I need to live it in the moment.
ReplyDeleteThis morning when Dylan was off chasing deer through the woods and I was standing there with snow lightly falling and a Cardinal flew up into a tree, he was stunning!

Love this, I needed the reminder. Living in the moment is so essential, so we don't miss a thing. Your trip sounds wonderful! xo.

Those are so often the best of times. The unplanned, no expectations, just go with it moments. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI am an in the moment gal as well and the ocean is indeed on of the best places to readjust yourself, straighten out and take deep breaths.
Would have loved to been on that road trip with ya'll!
Beautiful images. I want to go...
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet post, Debby. You and your daughter have such a special bond. Love to you both!
ReplyDeleteYesterday...skiing on freshly fallen powder. :)
ReplyDeleteDebbie,
ReplyDeleteYou always stop me in your tracks with your beautiful posts!!! The sweet house makes me think of what mine will look like when we're done. The wood shingle roof is going on now...and we are replacing our siding with a white shake, like the one in the photo. Makes me look forward to the finished product.
Last time I was in the moment - this morning...walking Molly. The snow is on the yards but the street was clean. There was a chill in the air but no wind. It reminded me of a Colorado day.
xoxo Elizabeth
It must have been a most liberating and wonderful feeling for the both of you. I needed that reminder - of living in the moment! Often I forget and drift back to the past or try to figure out what the future is going to be now... and too often the moment and all that it can be is gone.
ReplyDeleteThough this week-end ... our little visiting 6 year old, made it impossible to be anywhere else than in the moment. Especially while baking and licking the batter from the bowl. Children are so blessed to only live in the moment. I need to remember that more often, and live each moment.
Many blessings, xo HHL
Love this post!!! especially the dress in the first one!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures Debby! So glad you were able to experience that feeling with you daughter. Those are special times that tighten the mother daughter bond. Thank you for reminding us to live in the moment. Easier said than done! Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to go to Maine for a long time. I hear it's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'm not really sure the last time I was consciously living in the moment; it seems like I'm constantly looking at the future. Hmmm... now you've made me think again. :) I'm going to have to try that, living in the moment... what a concept!! ;)

OMG, that white dress! My daughter & I recently went on a cruise together (Alaska). We had the most wonderful time just living outdoors, enjoying the wildlife and Mother Nature. We will never forget the experience. This post is wonderful. xx's
ReplyDeleteI love that last image!
ReplyDeletewhat a nice way to spend time with your daughter Debby!
Sounds like a lovely time. I just want to step inside one of the pictures you posted, they are so relaxing.
ReplyDeleteI rarely live in the moment, even though i do try. What a nice reminder...
ReplyDeletesounds like you froze time for a moment or two, and now you'll have it captured in your memory forever...
Cindy

ReplyDeleteCarla
Lovely i want summer !
ReplyDeleteSaw you on Colette's blog and had to visit! Lovely blog. Just as lovely as u! :)
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's in the best of times - a picnic on the beach in the summer, reading an incredible book, and more recently, balancing poses in yoga - and sometime it's in the worst of times - taking care of a sick child all night, helping a friend in need... Thank you for reminding me how important it is "To take care of this moment" (Gandhi), Cynthia
ReplyDeleteIt's been so long I don't remember the last time I lived in the moment. I really need to do something to fix that ;-)
