That Inspirational Girl Series: #9

I've been wealthy, I've been poor and I've been somewhere in between. Here's the thing... all the money in the world cannot buy happiness. Sure, we've all gotten a temporary high from a shopping spree but we all know how it feels when the dreaded credit card bill arrives in the mail.

I truly believe those of us who are the richest are the ones who appreciate and love their families and friends, are hospitable in nature and consider the needs of others as well as their own. When you show love, generosity and consideration, it is mirrored back to you by the very people you've touched.

What do you think constitutes living a "rich" life? Do you believe money can buy happiness?

  1. I don't know if it can buy "happiness", but it can certainly ease the way.

I'd rather have family and good friends around me than money! That to me would make me the richest woman in the world.

  3. You are right on the money, Debby!! What is a rich life without the blessings of family and friends? Money is not everything, its one facet of life and certainly one that makes you and allows you to be more comfortable but does it buy happiness? No and if so, only temporarily.

Deep meaningful relationships and fulfilling experiences are what sustain us. Money is a vehicle that can allow us to take it a step further or to indulge in a wish list, but ultimately you have to be happy and content with your life first and foremost - there is no price that can be put on love, trust and an unconditional currency like friends and family.

    Another super post!

  4. Since we are currently in a difficult position with only one income (that being a teaching income!), I have decided what matters most to me are the simple things...family, home, education for my kids. It is important to take one day at a time and rejoice in the blessings of that day!

  10. Words so true. I have been all those things.
Not sure really weathly but the rest.
Now our income is cut by 60%. It's really hard but I still feel blessed to have such a wonderful family, many friends, a roof over my head and faith. Money does make us comfortable but we don't have to have sooooo many things.

  12. Beautiful post.. I once heard in Oprah that there was an income that could (together with other things) make you feel happy (the one enough to let you use your car, pay the bills, eat healthy, have some time to entertain) but that going up from that income doesn't make you happier or less happy... I have never been rich neither poor.. have always stayed in the middle and hope to be like this forever.. I wouldn't change anything.

  14. Money can buy happiness, temporarily. BUT money cannot by JOY!! To me, JOY is everlasting happiness, that comes from the love of God alone! it's always there, even when times are tough... :)

  18. I don't know what that first dress is made of but I want it....lol. It's never about money you can live well for absolutely nothing, a simple candle on the table at dinner time or simply setting the table if you're eating alone. It's about friendship and loved ones, having someone near and dear that makes your day. What a beautiful and thought provoking post.

  19. I once read that the happiest people have enough money to pay their bills without too much stress, but once they have too little or a lot more the happiness level goes down. True richness means being happy with what you have!!
    Love the post!
