Sometimes remaining neutral is the best choice at hand. This applies in relationships as well as interiors. I helped a good friend of mine redo her entire upstairs and found she had a fear of color. She was automatically drawn to neutral shades and preferred to play it safe when it comes to decor. However, I did manage to talk her into a fabulous color for her master bedroom that she ended up loving!
This has me wondering... are people who are more bold in their decor choices naturally more prone to taking risks in their personal lives? Do you think people who play it safe with their decor are more conservative by nature and less likely to take risks?
In my personal opinion, the people who have the most interesting interiors usually lead the most exciting and adventurous lives. After all, our homes do reflect who we are! What do you think?

If you wouldn't mind? what color did you talk your friend into for the walls. I love color, three shades of lite to dark gray throughout our house, except for our bedroom......hubby is not a fan of color. love all of your photos, so inspiring and they just make you/me feel good!
ReplyDeleteHuh? I never thought of it that way...but now that I think about it, I change my mind all the time when it comes to decor, and when is comes to decision making, I always try to make everyone happy (I am a Libra)....so I don't know..
ReplyDeleteI actually think you are on to something...I do believe that people more bold with decor and fashion tend to bolder personalities and maybe even take more risks in their business life. That would be a great study for someone to do....as always, I love your pictures!!
ReplyDeleteInteresting thoughts Debby!!
ReplyDeleteI love that first interior, so beautiful
this post is beautiful!! love the beachy/relaxed feel xxo
ReplyDeleteplease tell me that the room in the first photo is a giveaway and I just won ... please! Note to self: get a home with a bedroom that has French doors!
ReplyDeleteI'm not so sure about the bold colours and exciting life theory. I think some risk takers out there want to come home to a very serene and calm home to clear their mind. But this was a good question!
Goodness, that is something to ponder. I am a neutrals gal - both in my home and wardrobe. I shy away from color. Well, I like bold pops of color but only mixed in with neutrals, not all jumbled together. I think it's because I'm hyper and I like my surroundings to be calming :)
ReplyDeleteSo clean and stylish :X
ReplyDeleteI could move there!
I like both loud and nuetral colours, it gives me balance. My livingroom is creams, whites and silvers with some soft brown colours, and I feel relaxed and calm there. Some of my other rooms are more bright and colourful and they keep me energised!! Hope your having a great week xx
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos!! I would have to agree with you ... as I make my way through creating me, I find that I'm choosing more neutral and softer shades for our home in the country- this was not a conscious choice, its just worked our like that. My life is definitely not the same it use to be. Our home in the city reflects that stage of my life ... and is filled with colour (kitchen walls painted in a burnt brick colour, cupboards in a butter cream ~ powder room in a deep mauve)... Wishing you a fabulous day!! xo HHL
ReplyDeleteI have many different likes, but neutrals are my absolute favorite. I don't have a fear of color, just prefer neutrals, it makes me happy. I once painted a wall in my antique booth hot pink and loved it but wouldn't do it in my home, it's just not for me. I agree with LatteLisa, I'm not sure about the bold colours and exciting life theory either, but it was a good question! Loved all the beautiful pictures!!!

Something to think about! Or maybe vibrant characters need neutral backgrounds so they can stand out more themselves??

i really love these neutral colors. i usually want to paint a room bright but these choices are all so soothing and calming. xoxo jillian:: cornflake dreams
ReplyDeleteThose bedrooms are dreamy!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post, Deb! I have to agree with you. I think people who are more bold with their design choices tend to be the ones who are more adventurous in all aspects of their lives.
ReplyDeletexoxo
I definitely agree that clothing reflects everything in our lives. That's why I'm trying to be more bold in my clothes because I am trying to be more bold in life.
ReplyDeleteI agree Debby I think our homes are a direct reflection of how we conduct our lives, or at least if we are truly decorating in our own personal style. Many homeowners copy what they see in home and in dress and they never quite feel at home or comfortable in their own skin. Great observation on your part, Happy Thursday,

Lovely and I'd have to agree with your point- bold style usually means a bit of an edgier personality...from what I've noticed anyways;)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous post! You're probably right! Our home is also a reflection of our life, our personality and tastes.
ReplyDeleteI am going to have to agree with you that people that have the neutral thing going are usually more reserved, methodical and cautious
ReplyDeleteAt least among my friends

I can only speak for myself but I adore neutrals in the home but rarely wear them on my person. I love to be surrounded by relaxing colors and neutrals have that feel for me.
ReplyDeleteI am totally with you.. I think the fearless and adventurous people decorate their homes with great colors and patterns and mixes. Clothes are easier to manage, it won't matter if you don't wear something as much as your home... I am a neutral person who also enjoys fun stuff and my home is all neutral with green and purple (just a bit here and there).
ReplyDeleteGood question....my tastes have definitely changed from when I bought my first condo (I had bright colours throughout), then our first house (I continued the bright colour scheme, then morphed into neutrals for when we sold it), our house now is still neutrals but more of a autumnal palette. I love it, it's very calming and it's wonderful to come home to at the end of a crazy workday.
ReplyDeleteAll these pictures are so serene. I love the outfits.
ReplyDeleteLove that living room with all of its natural elements! Hard to say about interiors - I like to think so, since I try to fill my home with all kinds of beautiful things that are memories from my travels, family, etc...
ReplyDeleteGood question. Will have to ponder this some more... I'm a neutral girl for sure, but love little hints of colour here and there. As a person I can be quite the bohemian but I do detest drama in my life... hmmm...
ReplyDelete~ Clare x
I love every image. Neutral...but still warm. It's all in the mix.
ReplyDeletei am such a fan of neutrals! you never get tired of the simplicity, where as color gets old fast. Neutrals allow you to accessorize with color and change it out through the seasons/ years... but if you have a neutral base you can never go wrong! love it :)
