My inspiration: Romantic Bohemian. A blend of free spirit, romance, artsy and soft. Here is my interpretation on transitioning this style to decor.

You know the saying, "You are what you eat?"..... Well, I think that the following is true as well...."You are what you wear." Each time we dress we are sending the world a message with what we put on. I firmly believe that a book should not be judged by it's cover, but the truth is, people do judge us on first impressions. It's kind of interesting to reflect on your style of dressing and then see if it truly fits your personality and represents all aspects of who you are.
I know that whenever I go through a life changing year, my taste in fashion usually evolves. It's the same way with my decor. My taste is constantly changing and evolving. When I tire of something I look back to who I was, and where I was at in my life when I made the initial purchase. 9 out of 10 times I was at a different place emotionally, financially, or even spiritually.
Do you think your style of dress reflects accurately on all aspects of your personality?

You have tapped into my thoughts lately!! I have been really thinking about how my style has changed over the past seven years and even over the last year! There is much more about style than just throwing on a colorful shirt! I am going to discuss this more in the next month on my blog!
ReplyDeleteRomantic Bohemian....love it!!!
I totally think my style of dress reflects my personality. And it does evolve as I evolve. Love this romantic bohemian look and the translation to decor. It's fabulous!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day, honey :) xoxo

Good morning beautiful Debby! YOU inspired me to love the BOHO look; you and Shari. I could do this...I can live with this!! Anita
ReplyDeleteI so agree with you. I think how we present ourselves to the world does reflect on who we are and what we're feeling. I look back and in my 20s I was a little "buttoned up", in my 30s I loosened up...and now my accessories are nicer! :) I also think transitioning from a corporate job to stay-at-home mom greatly influenced my look.
ReplyDeleteI love how you relate our wardrobe to decor. I think the too go hand in hand.
Gorgeous images, too!

Excellent contemplation, I totally agree with you on style evolving as we grow as persons. E.g. all of a sudden I'm wearing more colours than I used to. Black used to be my thing; now only in winter ;-)
ReplyDeleteI'll wear that gorgeous ChloƩ dress any day!
Your post couldn't be more accurate... I look back at the different ways I would decorate and the many styles and it was certainly a reflection of where I was in my life! Thanks for sharing! xoxo
ReplyDeleteGreat interpretation! I always love reading your posts :)
ReplyDeleteRomantic bohemian had me at hello- so lovely and yes, I definitely think your fashion style reflects your personality!
ReplyDeletei just love the collage of pics! that bed looks so cozy and I want some flowy dresses.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Debby! The last image is perfect! The slipcovered lamp is so unique and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day.

Love this post! I totally agree! My house now has almost nothing from my first house 20 years ago... I was pink and green all the way! And although I still love the colors, they certainly don't work in my house anymore... mustards and oranges and greens... richer, frencher colors :O)
ReplyDeleteOh yes, my decorating style has certainly changed. My last house was very shabby chic, which is a style I love, but in this house I was craving simplicity and minimalism so that's what we did. I also went for all white when my previous house was bursting with color. I never thought it in relation to my personal style but you are right. I just cut my hair psycho short for no muss no fuss lifestyle and recently have been thinking about paring my wardrobe down to only the basics in white, black and denim. Guess the older I get the less I want to mess with these things.
ReplyDeleteOh yes! My style of dress changes quicker than the seasons. I hate it because I'm never satisfies and I keep shopping and shopping. I do love that bottom right dress. It taps into the feminine side of me.
ReplyDeleteHi Debby~ I do agree with you. My dress does reflect my personality...nothing flashy, soft spoken, simple and classic. My decorating style has evolved A LOT in the last 20 years. I now realize that my style is warm, european, eclectic, classic. Not necessarily simple, but comfortable. My home is my cocoon.

I love Boho looks. I'm trying to think of ways to decorate my room now that my sister's moved to college and you gave me some inspiration! xo
ReplyDeletePersonally for me , my style of dress does NOT reflect my true style.
ReplyDeleteMainly because I do not dress as feminine and pretty as I would like because of my size. I would wear mainly dresses and more feminine and girly styles if Iwore a smaller size. But if I did wear what I wanted to wear it would be the same as my home and surroundings.
Have a PRETTY day!
Kristin
i love this look... the bed is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh how I love me some boho, and this! It's just perfection! Thank you so much for a thought provoking post. I love the idea of dressing as an art and expression of you. Makes me want to go shopping!
ReplyDeleteI just stumbled upon you today and I'm following for sure!

That is so true! Inspiring lovely images!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful images! I love this free spirited look ever since I moved to Sydney 12 years ago..!
ReplyDeleteYou are so right that our life situation and general state of mind affect our wardrobe and how we choose to dress. I would even go so far as to say that for me, it even depends on my mood. And so my 'look' can change quite a lot from one week to the next just by the way that I feel and how much energy I have.
For me, my wardrobe also changed drastically after I had children. I no longer had to dress up for work and social functions the way I used to, and instead I found myself wearing a lot more casual and relaxed outfits. I still dress up once in a while, but these days I don't have to conform to a work ethic or social etiquette. Sydney is so laid-back (compared to London where I lived before..) and I find that a less formal look goes a long way here.

I do think there is something to be said of this, although part of me loves tailored, almost menswear inspired things, I also love putting on the prettiest pink thing I can find sometimes! I turned 50 last year, and have always been very sure of my personal style, but for some reason now I am enjoying playing around with my look a little bit! Also, there is so much to choose from out there now! But I know a few of my classic staples will always be my best...a crisp white shirt (my Sweetie just complimented me in this yesterday), the best cut and quality pair of black slacks I can find, and don't get me started on what a flattering pair of jeans can do for a woman of any age!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving how this classic French chair is transformed into a new look with this boho treatment...perfect analogy for my style these days!
